Ever since I was a kid, I have been fascinated with homes-how they live, feel and age. While oblivious to it at the time, I realize now how blessed I was to have grown up in Buffalo, NY, perhaps the most architecturally significant city in the country. At 23, I landed my first design job at Ann Sacks Tile & Stone, later The Kohler Company, and began an 8-year immersion into craftsmanship, manufacturing, architecture, materials and surfaces.
This sparked a never-ending curiosity for how things are made that I've since channeled into interior design, as well as my tile, stone and decorative surfaces consulting work. Since launching Griffin Design Source in 2003, I am fortunate to have worked on incredible projects all around the world, from 400-square-foot writing nooks to 16,000-square-foot family estates.

A basic bathroom reno turns into a whole-house refresh and the delightful discovery of bonus space. In design, as in life, isn't it funny how something can start as one thing, transform into another and ultimately reveal something wholly unexpected?
Such was the case for designer Ramey Caulkins when her neighbor from a few doors down (and, coincidentally, the brother of a dear college friend) approached her, seeking advice on a small home project. We put so much pressure on ourselves for everything to be perfect, ' Caulkins says. Turns out, an overdone, over-starched vibe isn't the best way to capture the spirit of the season.
