Welcome ~ McGee's Indian Art Gallery maintains a gallery and gift shop at Keams Canyon, on the Hopi Reservation. Originally started as a trading post by Thomas Keam, in 1874, he sold it to Lorenzo Hubbell in 1902. The McGee family bought the trading post in 1938, with Ron McGee presently managing the arts and crafts gallery.
Being located on the Hopi Reservation, McGee's Indian Art Gallery has become the focal point for buying Hopi crafts and then merchandising them to collectors around the world. McGee's Indian Art is the prime source for Hopi arts and crafts. The Keams Canyon trading post and gallery are also located only five miles from the Navajo Reservation, meaning a continuing inflow of Navajo Rugs and Jewelry.

I loved looking in this wonderful store. The woman who helped us was informative and helpful. Beautiful Hopi art and Navajo. When purchasing she even wrote down the artists of both pieces purchased. I wish I had purchased a couple more Hopi bracelets as I am enjoying mine so much. It is a trek to arrive, but I suspect we will be back on a future trip.

McGees has a nice selection of Native American art that is tastefully displayed. We picked out one piece immediately but as the woman tending the shop packaged the item she began critiquing some of the other art we were interested in based on its Navajo origin. We buy art based primarily on our likes, not specifically on tribal origin. She was so dismissive of the Navajo we felt uncomfortable buying anything else. Really, if you have such a problem with the Navajo why sell their work?
