Primary Eyecare Center An Optometric Practice has been serving generations of families on the Central Coast for over forty years. Our doctors of optometry and staff provide you with outstanding vision & eye care in a friendly and comfortable environment. We accept most vision and medical insurance plans, including VSP, MES, Anthem, Blue Cross, and Medicare.
Services
We know your vision is extremely important to you - and we want to help you see your very best. Our doctors work patiently with you to determine the type of visual correction that will best suit your needs and lifestyle. An eye exam is much more than determining a prescription for eyeglasses. Our comprehensive eye exam will check your eyes inside and out to detect any vision problems or eye diseases.
Our new location in the California Medical Center complex has allowed us to expand our optometric services with additional square footage, an expansive optical gallery, and a much larger parking area. Our practice expanded to the city of Atascadero in August of 1977. Started originally as a branch office, this 3400 square foot structure now houses our main operation and is staffed full-time by three doctors and seven optometric support staff.
At Primary Eyecare Center, we offer high quality custom eyeglasses with outstanding service. We will customize a visual solution for you using the latest technology in lightweight lenses, no-glare lenses, and progressive lens designs. Our products have an excellent warranty. Whether you are looking for contemporary designer frames or a more traditional style, we will help you find just the right frame for you.
Today's contact lens technology is so advanced that almost everyone who wears glasses can choose vision correction with contact lenses. Let one of our expert doctors recommend the ideal lens for you. Contact lenses can be a great option for children, as they also tend to be very active. All contact lenses are considered to be medical devices and must be fit by your eye doctor.
We accept most vision and medical insurance plans. We will ask for your insurance information when scheduling your appointment in order to verify coverage prior to your appointment for your convenience. We are providers with VSP, MES, Blue View, Anthem, Blue Cross/Blue Shield PPO plans, Medicare, CenCal and many others.

Terrible customer service, they try to nickel and dime you with their additional exams. Jocelyn was the technician she seemed like she was angry and was trying to race through. Then she used scare tactics to try to get me to get contacts through them saying that "online contact companies are terrible". Will not be going here again- I do not recommend.

In November 2019, I had my first eye exam since the the 1960’s. Primary Eyecare Center assigned me to a new associate, Jocelyn Ou. I understand that this is Dr. Ou’s first post-intern practice. I was impressed by her manner, method, apparent expertise, and resume (which I researched on-line). While maintaining her focus on a thorough examination, she explains what she is doing and what she finds in a way that is direct, immediately intelligible, and sometimes humorous. My eyesight had deteriorated in later years, requiring prescription eyeglasses and treatment for eyelash mites & the bacteria

The glasses I got from them are not usable and they are unwilling to fix them. I paid for an eye exam and new glasses, but was not able to see well from the new glasses. They tried to redo the lenses, but the prescription was still off. They were unwilling to re-test my eyes and instead offered to match the new lenses to my old glasses, but the resulting lenses do not match the old glasses and I still can't see.

Was so excited to book our entire family here but everything changed once I was transferred to a second staff member. They pulled all of our insurance information (dual) gave them all my information because I was told they can see us in two weeks. Then I was transferred to someone else that changed everything saying they could see us in a month. They should of started there first. So unprofessional!

Every single person in this office is absolutely amazing. From the moment you walk in to the moment you leave, everyone is so helpful and nice. Dr. Hider is the nicest eye doctor I’ve ever seen, he’s so personable and explains everything so clearly. Coming from the private practice world, I admire how he runs his office and how profession his staff is.

The eye doctors are fantastic. The front desk staff is always a pleasure to work with! The gentleman helping with glasses, had no opinion, was curt, and when I called said they would be here at the end of 3 weeks, estimate was 2 to 3 weeks. Getting glasses is impossible, take prescription somewhere where they care.

Just wanted to say that everyone at the Atascadero Primary Eye Care is fabulous, but I wanted to write a special review for Tina today. We missed our appointment earlier in the day, but Tina remembered who we were and gave us a call to fit us in later that same day. I am so deeply impressed by her thoughtful gesture and amazing customer service. Add to that Dr. Immoos’s fantastic care of my family’s eyesight and Cassandra’s detailed approach to getting us the best eyeglasses at the best price — I’m just a huge fan.

I bought glasses here today. I haven't bought glasses in many years and had no idea how much they should cost. I found a super cute pair of frames. They were $768. I got home and Googled the brand, and found the same exact frames readily available for around $300. Even Neiman Marcus had them for hundreds of dollars cheaper. I like to shop local, and I know that means I might pay a little bit more, but this is just taking advantage of people in the community. I am absolutely disgusted by their greedy over inflation.

This was my first visit to an eye Dr. after moving to the area. Had a great experience with Dr. Wong. However, my experience was not the best. I was initially offered a choice between a machine to analyze my pupil or dilation. It was not made clear to me until paying my copay that it was an additional $39! i would normally attribute this to my own misunderstanding but when I asked my husband, who had just been here the day before, he said he had the same experience except he asked if the machine was extra and opted for the dilation. We both agreed that something was fishy in the way the "machine

My daughter just started wearing glasses so she’s new to the process. The opticians were EXTREMELY helpful suggesting many options for her to try so she could find just the right ones! The ladies behind the desk go the extra mile to accommodate our entire family and the doctor presents information in a way that’s easy to understand.:)

This is a good dilations center; very thorough exams and comfortable environment. They offer alternative equipment to eye dilations. Sometimes their office staff needs a little work with call backs and information. They do have the best eye glass assistant in the area; Laura! she is superb, will help you pick the right frames and lenses and will fit them perfectly to your face and use. She adds to the reason to go here.

Great experience at primary eye care! Dr. Hider does a really thorough job of checking eyes. I have very difficult eyes to fit for contacts and he has gone through so much effort to find my correct brand and prescription. So glad to have found him. He is also extremely comfortable and great with children. Our whole families comes to him and are very happy.

I don't have enough positive adjectives to adequately review the Primary Eyecare Center on Santa Rosa Street in SLO. I will, however, make a solid attempt at covering all of the reasons why they're exemplary.
1. Customer Service
I mean, really, truly, the art of true customer service IS NOT DEAD, as evidenced by my first phone call to Primary Eyecare Center to set up an appointment. To be fair, this was a place that WAS recommended to me by a co-worker, but I still can't say enough about their ability their warmth, professionalism, responsiveness to questions and issues (and

I walked in and in a friendly manner said hello. I was "greeted" by a woman who frowned and said "can I help you?" It was as if I had, unannounced, walked in to her living room! I stated that I was referred by the Varilux website (a lens company). I told her that I was shopping for new frames and progressive lens. She again just frowned and rudely lectured me that Varilux is there only progressive lens provider. Great that's why I came here, I thought, no need to lecture. "Is it ok for me to look at some frames in your lobby?" I did not ask for assistance, just

I got great treatment from the doctors, but the customer service was so bad on 2 occasions that I won't return.
I have been using Primary Eyecare for a few years, and I had no problems until about a year ago or so, when I tried to reorder contact lenses. I had enough to last me two weeks, and I thought that would be plenty of time to reorder. I didn't get my contacts for a month. Their computer system was down, which I was very sympathetic about. They told me repeatedly that it would be back up "tomorrow" and they would call me immediately, taking my information over and over

Just got back from an excellent experience at Primary Eyecare Center.
The technicians Eric and Kevin were gracious, professional and knowledgeable. Eric seemed to be new and Kevin was guiding him a bit. No problem by me. All good.
Dr. Lauren Tobin Tackett did my exam. Smart, thorough, great communication. Again, all good.
Very pleasant offices that, though they are located on Santa Rosa Street, are peaceful and nicely decorated.
Prices are in-line with other optometrists I've seen in the past. I'll be back.

My 40 something eyes finally needed glasses. I was thinking drugstore, but I'm so glad I went to see Dr. Immoos. My prescription was quite different for each of my eyes. I never realized how much better my vision could be and how much more relaxed my eyes could be.
The staff is very friendly and the Dr. takes the time to really figure out what your needs are.

I have been a patient in this office for 10 years and continue to be seen here even after moving away from San Luis. Dr. Immoos is a fantastic eye doctor, very kind and invested in doing the best for her patients. Laura is also extremely helpful and has assisted me in selecting different frames over the years and now contact lenses.
