The ACMAF is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization created by Grandmaster James Shyun. We have a network of schools throughout the world dedicated to the teaching of Shyun Style Eight Step Preying Mantis Kung Fu and Shyun Style Tai Chi Chuan. This is a traditional Chinese martial arts system with a lineage that can be traced back hundreds of years to the Lao Shan Temples in the San Dong Province of China.

The fundamental aspect of the ACMAF is to teach and promote a healthier balanced lifestyle for the practitioners of the system through athletic training, research, publication, competition, education and certification. Eight Step Preying Mantis Kung Fu is a complete system of traditional Chinese martial arts.

The history of the Preying Mantis Style of Kung-Fu (T'ang L'ang Ch'uan) began in Gimore County in the Shantung Province, during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). From the oral tradition and the writings of later Mantis masters, we know that the founder and patriarch of the style was Wang Lang. Wang Lang was the smartest and most talented child of his family, and from an early age had developed a great interest in the martial arts.
Eight Step Preying Mantis Kung Fu is a complete system of traditional Chinese martial arts. Its beauty when practiced is rivaled only by its effectiveness in combat. With practice, the system builds the mind, body, spirit and character of the practitioner.

Whether you are interested in learning a martial art to defend yourself or just to promote great strength, flexibility and health - Shyun System Eight Step Preying Mantis Kung Fu will work for you.No previous experience is required to learn this system. Our schools start from the ground up, first focusing on the foundation techniques that will allow you to properly learn and excel in kung fu.
If you will be absent from class, please telephone the school so that your instructor will know. Students may not teach to anyone outside of school, or reveal the information or methods learned in class. When your instructor says "Attention!" stand with your back straight, arms at your sides, and look directly at your instructor.
This series of exercises was originally developed for martial artists, however, people from all walks of life benefit from using these exercises. These essential techniques were designed to incorporate the whole body working together in harmony and allow you to lose weight, gain flexibility, build muscle, gain strength, develop coordination, and provide the essential techniques for self defense.
