If you're looking for the ritz Carlton, this is not your place. But, if you're looking for a little nostalgia, some peace and quiet on a mountain, and to not be bothered ... This is your place. Some great hiking excursions nearby such as cascade falls. My 12 yo daughter loved the slow pace and laid back lifestyle of the place. I loved the dirty dancing history and staying in a nice little cabin with a fireplace. It was hit during the day but very cool with windows open at night. My husband liked the hiking activities, and other things to do in the nearby community. The store was great, nice variety

Like a leap back in time to my past. When the movie Dirty Dancing came out, we all wanted to be Baby and Johnny. Almost 35 years later, I ended up in the original setting more by accident than anything else. Here everything is like in the movie. Unfortunately the lake has dried up. The Dirty Dancing fan immediately feels transported back in time. Even non fans of Dirty Dancing get their money's worth. There are great hiking trails and you can take great walks. There are great hiking trails so you can take great walks through the forest. The bar is great with great bartenders and the food in the

Great! This was our second stay. The first we stayed in the Chestnut Lodge which was awesome. Highly recommend. This stay was for the New Year Eve's celebration! The Steak was perfect and the lobster hit the spot. Dadrian was spot-on as our waiter for dinner and the following morning. If you want an incredibly stunning view of the Blue Ridge mountains... hike (actually it is a walk and you feel like you are cheating because it is more of a fire road) 1mile and you will find the Bald Knob view stunning.

Beautiful. Great staff. If you are staying in the cabins make sure to bring all your cooking supplies. Could have stayed much longer. Great longer and shorter hikes. Can mountain bike, clay shoot. Will go back.

We chose to spend Christmas here this year. And it did not let us down. Such a beautiful place, lots of history. Was awesome just to unplug from life. Excellant food from Harvest, and the drinks were awesome from the tavern. Every single one of the staff from maintanace, the servers, chefs, front desk, housekeepers, and bartenders were the nicest and most wonderful people to be around. We absolutely loved this place!!

My boyfriend and I adventured to Mountain Lake Lodge and had a wonderful time. I highly recommend the guided gator tour. Our tour guide Bo was well versed in the history of the lodge and the Dirty Dancing scenes throughout the venue. The views from Bald Knob were incredible and well worth the quick trip up the mountain. After our tour, we hit up the bar to have a Bloody Mary and bison burger. AJ prepared an excellent drink and our bison burger was delicious. We had a wonderful time spending the day outdoors and seeing the sights. It’s a very family friendly atmosphere and of course the gift shop

Mountain Lake Lodge is an awesome venue for your wedding. The backdrop is wonderful, the food is great, and the staff are accommodating to your needs. My wife and I had to change our wedding plans about a month ahead of the big day, and Lyndsi was so accommodating to help us find a small location on the property to have our ceremony. We had a room block at the lodge and a group dinner at Harvest. They truly made our wedding special and I would give Mountain Lake Lodge, specifically their event staff, more than 5 stars if I could.

We have been to the lodge many times but something has changed. They now charge a fee for everything and the service was not very good. We spent over 700 for two nights, two breakfasts, and one meal. The first night we turned the heat off and still the room was 85 according to the thermostat. Not a restful night sleep when you sweat to death. We let them know and they recommended leaving a window open in the middle of winter. We payed extra for a room with a fire place and in the past they had wood ready to use. We had to go get our own wood and then all they had was wet wood that would not burn

The hotel itself was very beautiful. The scenery was breath taking and the many activities available gives you something to do all day. The hotel caters to more nature lovers, don't expect a fancy up to date hotel with modern accommodations since it's basically built for you to enjoy the rustic outdoors. I gave it the 4 star because I do understand the authentic rooms that should not excuse the dust in the room and the bugs in the light (reference the pictures). We decided to do breakfast at the Harvest restaurant and there was a sign that said "Please wait here to be seated"

Start off by splitting out the good from bad.
The recreational part of it was the bomb. I call the young man who did my archery and escape room part Mr. Stevens. That's because he was a complete gentleman and went over and above helping me out. Just as one small example: directions off the mountain (more than one way) and pros/cons of that and a more full list of where the adventure area was. Something of local history (I'm into local when I go anywhere) too. He was an excellent teacher because one of the archery targets I made every one, most the others, I was on the mark for a majority

Had a great night at this rustic hotel resort. We did not stay in any of the cabins and had a room in the main house. Everything was clean and in working order. It's an older hotel so don't expect an updated room with crazy technology. It's a rustic hotel in the woods with everything you need to have fun and stay comfortable. The grounds were nice and they had different signs throughout the hotel to identify the different Dirty Dancing landmarks.

Yes, the pond is dried up and has been for a very long time. So don't cry about it if you show up looking to do The Lift. They

Not only does this beautiful hotel have a fun story, it is a great romantic get away. Twice my husband and I have visited and twice we have loved our stay. We stayed in the cottages and the inn and each were memorable in their own way. We would love to get back for Christmas one year.
The grounds are beautiful to walk and if you are a Dirty Dancing fan, the self guided your is an added bonus to the already beautiful grounds.
Go to the bar and try their Spicy Bloody Mary or my husband's new favorite their Hickory Old Fashioned.

I have been to Mountain Lake Lodge twice so far. The first time was in February for my birthday. It was so peaceful and I enjoyed my time even though there wasn't a lot to do. You can go skiing or snow sledding. The food at the restaurant was amazing.
The second time I went was just last weekend for the Dirty Dancing event they do every year multiple weekends throughout the summer. Your stay includes your room, a buffet breakfast and lunch in the barn, a buffet dinner in the restaurant and several activities. I personally had a great time and enjoyed my stay during this event. Not sure what I was expecting but it wasn't this. Went in July and was told not to worry about no air bc of fans and breeze through the window. Well, I was thankful for the fan but there was no breeze as my room was on the first floor and window opened to the area you drive up to and where golf carts come through. Beautiful view of a wall. Bring a cooler bc ice melts soooo fast and there was no mini fridge in my room. Bathroom floor was soooooo slippery that even with rubber sole shoes I almost busted my butt everytime I went in. There were no individual size shampoos and conditioner and such

Lodging: Gorgeous old hotel. Unfortunately needs a lot of updating. Flooring, windows...all look quite aged. The pillows were stained and solid blocks of fiber of some sort. The rooms have no TV which we liked, but they should probably say that somewhere (last time I was there was 20+ years ago and we stayed in a cabin, not in the lodge). Internet was fine for streaming. Big focus on the fact Dirty Dancing was filmed there. Almost too much, but seeing that they were actually filming another Dirty Dancing themed show while we were there I guess it's something they hope will still bring in guests

Would have been nice to know:

No air conditioning on-site

Production company here for filming and have over taken the property and guests have limited access to certain areas. Also there are very limited guests due to the number of rooms given to the production company.

I would have booked somewhere else if known.

We had our renewal here this past weekend. The event was beautiful and Aleta & Kristen were amazing!!

The grounds are absolutely stunning. Disappointed that the pool closed at 8pm, especially since there's no life guard, it just didn't make sense.

The adventure center offers several fun activities. The entire staff at the rope course are fantastic. Brian was awesome and we appreciate the fun and service we received. The Outfitters offered a lot of fun souvenirs.

Can't begin to understand why the market to get coffee opens after the restaurant. Rooms have coffee pots or kuerigs

This place was amazing. Yes the lake is dried up, but it's still beautiful in a new way. I saw a deer bedding down for the night in the "lake" during a sunset walk, and was greeted by peeper frogs and fireflies as I walked back to the lodge for the night. Service is friendly and knowledgeable, management is very observant and attentive. We enjoyed a lovely dinner and a scrumptious breakfast. We highly recommend stopping here if you're in the area.

The food is incredible and the cabin we stayed at was super cute! We went on the zipline adventure and had a blast!!
The only down sides were the 2 night minimum stay and the fact that our "kitchenette" had no plates, bowls or silverware. And there was only 3 cups for 4 guests and 2 Kcups for our 2 night stay for 4 people. We called the front desk and never received the extra 6 Kcups we ordered. So I'd say service is certainly lacking.

BEWARE THE HIDDEN FEES! There was a fine-print $75 pet fee that we were never warned about and was slapped on us upon checkout. We tried to get it reversed and they basically told us "Your fault for not reading the fine print."

Also, our water was shut off without notice so we couldn't drink or shower this morning.

Not recommended for those on a budget.

The Harvest Restaurant is a beautiful stone restaurant w great views of the resort. Not many people so no real problem w social distancing here in Mid November. Waitress and crew wear masks and sanitizers accessible.

I had biscuits and gravy, the biscuits were fresh and soft, home fries w a mix of sweet potatoes and regular potatoes, Applewood bacon and a pancake. Very good but my meal got cold quickly as we were seated on the enclosed porch so l would ask to sit in the inside area next time.

Come and check out the resort where many scenes from the movie Dirty Dancing were filmed. The harvest

We have been to Mountain Lake numerous times. It's absolutely gorgeous and charming, if still a little rough around the edges (the WiFi is iffy, you'll need to make coffee in your room if you're an early riser, or wait for the restaurant to open, etc.). Don't expect some kind of world-class resort. That's OK - it's really more of a rustic stone lodge with amazing views and outdoor activities.

That said, I have two pieces of advice for travelers, based on our October 2020 visit:
1. Know what you're getting, then double check it. There was a mixup with our cabin

I came here to have the time of my life!

We happened to be be staying in the Virginia Mountains for a week and I saw that "Kellerman's" was only 1 hour away. As a young child of the 1980s, I HAD to see where one of my favorite movies was filmed. Dirty Dancing was not actually filmed in the Catskills, it was filmed about 30 mins from Virigina Tech! I'm from Upstate New York and I have to say the drive to here did feel reminiscent of driving the Thruway through the Catskill Mountains.

We arrived around noon midweek in September, the place was dead quiet. We parked in the

HOME OF DIRTY DANCING!!!

When we embarked on our weekend getaway to Virginia, we really only had one thing in mind. Finding a location midway between Akron & Atlanta to meet up with friends.

COVID-19 has drawn out different levels of concern for different people that basically boils down to a traffic light.

RED LIGHT people are sheltering in place above and beyond local recommendations opting to limit exposure to others to the maximum of their ability, while GREEN LIGHT people are almost exactly the opposite. I fall into the YELLOW LIGHT category where I do not desire to shelter with little

It is 11:25 at night and we've been told there is one person on duty AT THE WHOLE RESORT. we specified three people on our reservation and the sofa bed is not made up, nor are there any sheets. They will not bring us any, even to drop at the door. Which they did earlier with both glasses and toilet paper. They also moved a chair from an adjoining deck for us. This is absolutely ridiculous. Don't bother.

Update: their policy is to have one person onsite 11-7? Hopefully nothing goes worse.

I'm torn on my review for the Mountain Lake Lodge. Maybe I expected more. It is in a great location. There are tons of outdoor things to do. The property is very nice (outside). If you like Dirty Dancing, you'll recognize many of the buildings.

We stayed in one of the cabins. I arrived late on Friday night (9:30pm). It was warm and musty inside the room (no AC). I could hear everything around us. The group of people next door were up until midnight outside talking. That's not the fault of the property, I get it. The room itself was decorated in vintage 1980s garage sale

What a wonderful place. We stayed in one of the cabins for 5 nights.
The staff really makes you feel special. The food and drinks where terrific.
You really can't beat the whole atmosphere.
Lots of outdoor activities including hiking trails, a rope course, skeet shooting and a brand new second pool.
Would recommend this place to anyone and if you happen to be a big Dirty Dancing fan, heaven.
