Services
Lahita Engineering was founded in 2010 by Eric Lahita PE. Eric was licensed by the State of New York in 2006, and decided to follow his dream of working as an engineering consultant shortly thereafter. He began working for several large heavy civil contractors on deep foundation projects in the tri-state area.
Lahita Engineering has been working with many heavy civil and foundation contractors as well as developers/owners to complete their difficult projects over the years. Support of excavation - soldier piles & Lagging, cofferdams, steel and vinyl sheet piling, tiebacks. Lahita Engineering regularly works with architectural firms and developers to design residential/mixed use buildings in the Hoboken/Jersey City/NYC area.
The replacement of the Centre Street Bridge over the Third River required a temporary and permanent support of excavation design to allow for the installation of the new bridge foundation. Lahita Engineering was tasked with the design of a steel sheeting wall and tie back support of excavation.
The shallow bedrock elevation required the design and installation of toe pins at the bottom edge of the sheeting wall in order to resist soil and surcharge pressures.Greenwich Country Day School's original school building required temporary shoring during its expansion/construction project. A large portion of its foundation wall required removal while the remaining upper floors were supported on temporary steel posts and beams.

Lahita Engineering was contracted to design a timber framed staircase for one of PSE&G's Facilities. The staircase was installed at the back entrance of the substation, and up a steep hill. A 3-D Model was generated and analyzed in Risa 3D in order to evaluate the bearing capacity of the proposed sonotubefoundations, and to determine the size and layout of the timber superstructure.
Lahita Engineering was tasked with completing a condition assessment of an existing fire escape structure and its connections to the rear masonry facade wall. Repair details will be provided to make the structure safe. Lahita Engineering was hired to complete a site investigation of a fire damaged structure and to make recommendations for its repair.

I only worked with Edwin briefly, but he and his team are excellent. I needed a quick opinion about issues with my apartment building after Hurricane Ida, which, unsurprisingly, my landlord didn't care about. The first person I talked to was immediately helpful, and then Edwin made time — despite Lahita's packed schedule — to respond within the hour and assess the situation/offer his insight. Smart team that clearly cares about their clients' needs.

During what was supposed to be a simple designed row house within the historic district of Jersey City, we discovered a unconventional design and typology. However, working directly with Lahita Engineering we were able to collaborate on making sure the design intent kept to it's true original idea. They were able to draw up a customized wall design that worked around all the tight conditions a row house lot provides. He was always very patient and took the time to provide detailed responses to my questions either by phone or email. He genuinely cared about the design and it's structure of the home

We hired Lahita Engineering to perform the structural design for a 5 story, poured concrete single family home in Jersey City. This required that we demolish an existing 150 year old, structurally unsound house, with utmost care as we shared two party walls with neighbors, and which needed to be protected accordingly. Lahita Engineering was able to design a workable solution for this demolition, design a cost effective new concrete structure, supervise our helical piling, and provide the associated inspections during construction.
