Our Mission at Solution Focused Therapies is to provide quality mental health services to those in need. We teach the importance of self empowerment and positive thinking to manage stress and crises. Michele Hancock, MSW, LCSW is an experienced Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 25 years of experience.

She is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Ericksonian Hypnotherapy and Solution Focused Therapies. Michele is a graduate of Catawba College, with a double major in Sociology and Clinical Psychology. Michele earned a Master of Social Work degree from Barry University, in Florida.

Anxiety Disorders, such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Specific Phobias, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Agoraphobia and Panic Disorders affect 40 million Americans a year. The exact cause of anxiety disorders is unknown; however, anxiety disorder-like other mental illnesses-are not a character flaw or personal weakness.
Bipolar Disorder is a Mood Disorder which involves severe fluctuations in mood. This condition characteristically involves cycles of depression and Mania (elation) or Hypo-Mania. The depressive episode usually lasts longer than the manic or hypo-manic episodes. There are different features of Bipolar Disorder.
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms usually occur within 3 months of a traumatic event. It is an anxiety disorder. Sometimes symptoms can surface several years later. PTSD symptoms cause significant problems in work, social situations and interpersonal relationships.

We use Cognitive Therapy, to help a traumatized client to recognize how their thinking patterns (cognitive patterns) that are keeping them "stuck" - for instance, negative or inaccurate ways of perceiving everyday situations.For PTSD, cognitive therapy often is used along with exposure therapy.
Depression is a Mood Disorder that can cause significant impairments in our daily life functioning. Depression affects 21 million Americans a year. That's almost 10% of the US population. It is manageable; however, with a proper diagnosis and intervention it is a highly treatable and manageable condition.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is another anxiety disorder characterized by recurrent, intrusive, anxiety provoking thoughts that are ego-dystonic (not characteristic of who you are), and make no sense. The most effective treatment noted for OCD today is Cognitive-behavioral therapy. This involves two components: Exposure and response prevention involves repeated exposure to the source of your obsession.
