To bring together the resources of government, businesses, and residents to protect and improve the environment and the quality of life in our community. Keep Smyrna Beautiful began in 1984 as Smyrna Clean and Beautiful, Inc. through a city of Smyrna ordinance. We function as a hybrid organization, with the Keep Smyrna Beautiful, Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in partnership with the City of Smyrna's Environmental Services department.
The annual Garden Tour, Keep Smyrna Beautiful's signature event, highlights lovely and innovative gardens within Smyrna. The tour is self-guided and attendees are able to explore each of the unique gardens that offer an assortment of sizes, styles, terrain, and plantings at their own pace. Designed to engage and educate, this tour will inspire all who attend to beautify and enhance their own homes and neighborhoods.
At Keep Smyrna Beautiful, we work to protect the vital resource of our local waterways. Rivers Alive, our largest water initiative, is an annual litter cleanup along the tributaries that run into the Chattahoochee River, which supplies drinking water for millions in the metro Atlanta area. Volunteers work together to clean and preserve this natural resource by stopping litter from polluting, harming the wildlife, and travelling to our oceans.
In order to reduce the amount of waste generated by Smyrna residents and other community members, Keep Smyrna Beautiful hosts two community document shredding events annually. These events provide a means for safe and secure document shredding and recycling. There is no charge for the event but donations are collected on-site.
Our local streams are a vital natural resource that connects to the Chattahoochee River, which provides drinking water for millions in the metro Atlanta area. In an effort to protect and preserve these fundamental resources and the ecosystems they create, Keep Smyrna Beautiful engages environmentally conscious volunteers to monitor the water quality at 13 Smyrna streams through Georgia Adopt-a-Stream.
