In 1979 James McDowell started McDowell Sales. This business was primarily wholesale sales over the telephone and then delivered to the customer's door. James worked out of a box truck and garage at his home. In 1981 his father in law had moved his business (Wood Sales Co.) to a new warehouse and a building became available.
James and Oneal then started M. & W. Sales, Inc. in Golden, Ms, as a walk in wholesale business. James however still stayed on the road delivering wholesale merchandise that was sold over the telephone. James' wife Tammy stayed at the wholesale warehouse taking care of the wholesale sales there until it grew enough to hire a truck driver taking James off the road.
