The martial art of Okinawan Shorin Ryu is passed on to students over the course of many sessions. Students train to improve their strength, speed, technique, and execution under the tutelage of licensed instructors. The training sessions provide a holistic approach to fitness as well as prepare students in the event they ever needed to defend themselves.
Maine Traditional Karate & Fitness is a charter dojo in the OSMKKF. The dojo is rooted in the traditional style of Okinawan Shorin Ryu. Our goal is to develop each student with practical martial arts for self-defense usage as well as improve overall fitness, confidence and knowledge. Our Grandmaster Fusei Kise in Okinawa said it best himself, "My only wish is for you to develop good heart, good family and good karate."

MTK youth classes provide children aged 5 to 12 instruction in the empty hand self-defense techniques and traditional weaponry (kobudo) associated with the 300-year-old system of Shorin Ryu karate-do. Youth students are also exposed to the fundamentals of tuite (joint manipulation), but are restricted from learning and engaging in advanced practices as sensitive growth plates can be damaged in youth who are still growing.
Class promotes learning the proper execution of blocks, kicks, and punches. Instructors focus on developing self-control, respect, and positive group social skills with students. The youth are given a lot of opportunities to burn off the extra energy they come with! Classes are every Thursday from 6:00pm-6:45pm with Sempai Mikel Leighton and every Friday from 5:30pm - 6:15pm with Sempai Josh Curtis.
If there is a problem accessing the form here then follow this link to access the form directly. Our women's self-defense class provides you with skills that will allow you to protect yourself in a variety of scenarios.
