Kitchens have come a long way since their status as a utilitarian space. Family and friends want to enjoy each other's company, without the road blocks created by the design sensibilities of previous eras. Kitchens are a space for support and nourishment; it is where we congregate and re-create the experiences that will shape our lives.
Gale Melton Design has been serving the San Francisco Bay area for 20 years, offering kitchen and bathroom design, color consultation, furnishings, space planning, and general decorating for both period and modern residences.

Gale has a unique understanding of how to optimize space in Victorian and early 20th century houses, which are cherished and preserved by Bay Area residents, but whose finishes and floor plans can exasperate the most ardent preservationist.Working with a deep understanding of period style, she brings the ease and functionality of modern living to blend seamlessly with the historic envelope.
A pop of color can be just what a bedroom needs. As long as it is blended in well with the decor, extravagant colors and textures can give off a luxurious allure. 21st century dyes have only become sharper, brighter, and more sultry. In the 19th century, colors (even indigo) were rarely used.

Yes, the wealthy could afford poppy reds and ultra deep violets, but it wasn't until fairly recently that modern home owners have access to the deep beach-y aquas and brilliant sherbet oranges featured in this futuristic cabin concept. For our office remodel, we turned a cold industrial loft into a cozy, comfortable, cultured haven for clients and ourselves.
