Shy Tree, formerly Sustainable Home and Yard, is a licensed and insured Tree Service Company founded in 2017 with the mission to practice Arboriculture in a commercial setting while prioritizing plant health care. Shy Tree has earned several commercial contracts including projects at the French Embassy in Washington D.C. and a service contract with the City of Bowie, MD.
Alex Shy, owner and operator of Shy Tree, is an ISA Certified Arborist, MD Licensed Tree Expert, FAA Certified Remote Pilot, and is qualified in Tree Risk Assessment. Alex graduated with honors from West Virginia University with his B.S. in Natural Resource Management.

Services
Our standard removal will be completed using varying techniques depending on the nature of the job. This might include technical rigging, use of a crane, or simply felling the entire tree. Once down, we will dispose of all tree material. A down-only tree removal consists of safely taking the tree down either in one or multiple pieces.

We had a tree that was unsafe in our yard. Within less than 24 hours, Shy tree quoted us and came out to remove the tree. Their quote was significantly less than any other company we talked with and they were extremely responsive and professional. We couldn't be happier with their services.

They were amazing! I would definitely use Shy Tree again. I originally had an appointment for several large trees to be trimmed and some big fallen branches to be removed in December but due to a family emergency, I had to do a last minute rescheduling. Shy Tree was able to get me another appointment only a few weeks out and were super understanding about it. All the team was respectful of property (they even made sure to close all my gates and lock them!), cleaned up the driveway after, and the trees look great! Thank you Shy Tree!!

Highly recommend Shy Tree. I had a dead tree in the middle of the deck in my backyard. They came up with multiple approaches to tackle the problem and prioritized my best interests. They were able to remove the tree in one day with no damage to anything, and cleaned everything up when they finished. They also gave me a reasonable price. I had two rather large dead trees taken down and one smaller one with Shy Tree today and I was extremely impressed with their promptness, prices, professionalism, knowledge of tree health, and tree removal. Alex was very personable and easy to talk to about my concerns about the trees and the removal process. I was equally impressed in how well they cleaned up the debris from cutting down the trees and went the extra mile to make sure my yard looked better than before they started. Worked with Alex to remove two dead trees on our property, and couldn't be more happy with our choice. He and crew provided competitive prices and did such professional work with limited interruptions to our day. One large tree in the center of our yard required a scissor lift which Alex brought in with limited damage to our yard...so thrilled with their work and highly recommend!!

We had a fallen tree and a few dead ones in our backyard. Shy Tree gave us the best quote to remove them.
Scheduling was easy, and they had an opening earlier than we initially expected. Their crew worked quickly. They all used appropriate safety gear and protected the grass from the heavy equipment. They cleaned up very well, too! Other than the missing trees, you wouldn't know they were here.
I would hire them again, and I'll be recommending them to friends and family.

This is not a reflection on Shy Tree's work, because...we didn't hire them. Why then? The quote was $4000. That was $2300 MORE than the HIGHEST quote we received from three other licensed and insured businesses (whose quotes varied with a delta of a little over a $100). Jerry's response to my surprise was: it's a lot of work. Indeed it is, as it would be for the other companies. I'm very thankful I had those current proposals (as well as years of tree maintenance fees from the past) in my pocket. And looking through the reviews, it looks like this isn't the

Had a tree overgrowing my neighbors house and needed it cut down. Unfortunately, i was out of town and would not be back for a while. They were willing to work with me remotely and offered several different quotes depending on what I wanted done. Where happy to work with my neighbor as well to insure he was happy with their work. The work was done quickly and efficiently. My neighbor let me know they were fast and courteous and did exactly what was needed. Would strongly Recommend!

We had a great experience with Sustainable Home and Yard. Alex and his crew did an amazing job removing a large dead tree in our back yard and trimming two trees in our front yard. The free estimate was easy and Alex does a really nice job of explaining everything. The prices were very affordable as well. The crew left the area nice and neat when they were done.

I was very happy with the tree removal Sustainable did. We needed a sub contractor to remove a tree next to one of the 7-11s we work for and Sustainable did an amazing job and very quickly. We had a branch fallen due to the ice and Alex came the same day to give us a quote. His price was reasonable and he accommodate us and took care of it the next day. They came on time and in approximately an hour finished the job and left everything clean. In the near future we have to remove the tree and we definitely want Alex and his team to take care of it.
