Cairn Hill Nature Preschool
At Cairn Hill Nature Preschool we believe that both the environment and the adults around a child shape how they relate to themselves and to others. Through the caring relationships that develop between peers and teachers, we hope to plant the seeds of respect for others and love for humanity which can accompany our students as they navigate life as young persons and as adults.

We invite you to explore our philosophy, see our curriculum, meet our team, learn of our commitment to the community and most of all, discover why Cairn Hill Preschool is the perfect place for your child. Cairn Hill Nature Preschool has a unique blended curriculum that is inspired by the principles of Waldorf education and nature-based education, and is informed by the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).

Early childhood is a key stage of development that shapes how children perceive and interact with the world around them. At Cairn Hill Nature Preschool we strive to provide a sensory-rich environment for young children to be able to safely discover that world. We allow ample time for exploration of nature to foster in our young students an appreciation for the earth and its creatures, and to delve into science at their own level.
Cairn Hill Nature Preschool has created a unique "hybridized" curriculum that is inspired by the principles of Waldorf and Nature-based education, and informed by the Common Core State Standards in the areas of English language arts, science, math, and the learning through the arts. We use the methods of Waldorf education to teach academic content in a hands-on, lively, experiential way, through real-life experiences.
In early 2012, three educators: Daniel Bekele, Ed. D., Cheryl Dressler, Ed. D., and Margaret Ris, M.Ed met at the Abiata Cafe in Malden, Massachusetts to determine the best way to bring the gifts of Waldorf education to children in public school settings. They agreed to found a non-profit organization for this purpose and named it after a spot in Malden's beautiful and rugged Fells Reservation: Cairn Hill.
Cairn Hill Nature Preschool is located at Camp Lion on the border of the two vibrant cities of Lynn and Salem, Massachusetts. Lynn is a Gateway City with an impressive mixture of ethnicity, income levels and languages. Lynn has many ponds and marshlands, and both Salem and Lynn claim the Atlantic Ocean as resources.
