We have been voted "Best Acupuncture Clinic"in Santa Barbara for many years by the Santa Barbara Independent Reader's Poll. Community Centered Oriental Medicine is the clinical practice of Nikki Doner and Mark Sherwood. They each have 36 years of clinical experience, advanced training in China, and have served as faculty at acupuncture colleges.

It is the purpose of Community Centered Oriental Medicine to make the remarkable benefits of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine easily available to you. Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine are a safe, effective, chemical-free way to promote your body's self-healing abilities. Modern research has shown that acupuncture is a safe, effective, chemical-free way to promote the body's remarkable self-healing abilities.
Services
Acupuncture uses hair-thin, flexible needles, inserted into specific points on the body to activate the body's own healing powers. Chinese herbology is a powerful system that uses natural medicinals to treat numerous common complaints. Our popular cupping therapy is used to treat musculoskeletal pain and soreness and increase range of motion.
Several thousand years ago, East Asian practitioners observed that the body and mind can be disturbed as a result of the various physical and mental stresses of life. Oriental medical theory explains these disharmonies as an imbalance of opposing forces called yin and yang. This imbalance disrupts the movement of the body's vital energy (qi) along the meridian pathways, which are channels through which the body's energy is thought to flow.
We are some of two most experienced Chinese herbalists in the area, having extensive clinical experience and advanced training in China. Chinese herbs are often used in conjunction with acupuncture for added therapeutic effect. While many cultures have herbal medicine traditions, the sophistication of Chinese herbal medicine is unsurpassed.
Nikki Doner offers private sessions for those interested in personal shamanic healing and counseling. Shamanism is an ancient methodology of healing that can bring profound guidance and relief to those in need. Its history and use can offer therapeutic guidance in modern world. For thousands of years shamans around the world have trained and practiced the ability to travel consciously to other levels of reality.
Fertility issues are a specialty at our clinic. Over the years we have built a reputation for working with doctors at local fertility clinics as well as our valued nurse midwives in the area. We have designed protocols to help regulate the menstrual cycle to treat issues such as irregular periods, absence of a period and ovulation problems.

I can't believe it has taken me so long to write this review!

I briefly shared an office with Mark and Nikki and saw Nikki for treatment as well; both while sharing office space and after. My experience in both sharing space and as a patient was always of the utmost professionalism, compassion and quality of care that I have experienced.

We are so grateful to Mark for treating my daughter after she had jaw surgery. He and Nikki are very kind and caring, and Mark really helped my daughter to heal. Her swelling went down much faster than we expected, and Mark treats the whole body and spirit, which are affected so much by the trauma of surgery and pain.
A lovely bonus is their lovely Golden Retriever. My daughter walked in the door and the dog helped her to forget her pain. We are so grateful that our surgeon referred us to Mark, and that Mark took us on as short term clients (we are from Massachusetts and only here for one month

Mark and his wife Nikki are the best at what they do: healing with acupuncture. They are committed to their work and have been since 1986. They are a treasure to the community. Most physicians give you a pill, sometimes with known side effects and send you on your way. Mark and Nikki treat your entire being often with great success. They are the real deal.

Mark and Nikki Sherwood are the best acupuncturists in town and two of the most wonderful people you will ever meet! I am not prone to hyperbole, so take me at my word. If you are looking for acupuncture in Santa Barbara, look no further. I don't think you can find anyone more highly skilled or compassionate than these two. They are the real deal!

I had the good fortune of being able to work for them in their clinic ten years ago and have been treated dozens of times by both of them for a variety of issues--chronic neck and back pain, nerve pain, asthma, headaches, to name a few. In

My girlfriend suffers from chronic migraines. The latest lasted for solidly two weeks. After an allergic reaction to a common medication that had been prescribed for treatment, we found our way to CCOM as a last resort. Mark was professional and took her concerns seriously. One session eased her symptoms, and the migraine was gone the next day. I cannot say how relieved we were at his skill and the outcome. We will certainly be continuing care with CCOM in the future.

Before I started seeing Nikki, I was trying to get pregnant for about 2.5 months. I didn't think I had fertility issues, but definitely felt that a little help in the right driection (maybe relaxing and moving some chi would help things along). I also had some shoulder issues I wanted to address, so I figured accupuncture was a good way to go.

I emailed Nikki and she called me the next day, on her day off. She was able to get me in within a few days. I liked her immediately. We had our first appointment, I really enjoyed speaking with her, she put in a lot of time and seemed to care. We

I have had an ongoing back problem (2 disc herniations) for 4.5 years. I took anti inflammatories for pain and as a result, I developed a serious stomach problem that was very painful and hard to treat. I bounced from doctor to doctor, trying many approaches to healing. Western doctors, Oriental doctors, Holistic doctors and Homeopathic doctors. I have tried so many treatments, "cures", meds, fasts, chiropractic, radical dietary changes (which had helped the most up to a point). They all helped a little bit and temporarily. I thought I was going to just have to live with the pain the

My experience at CCOM was just great. Working with Mark Sherwood I was able to Overcome years of frequent colds and flu. That was a very big deal for me - this season I have been cold free!!! I experienced the community treatments where they treat more than one person in a nice room and that turned out to be very good. It's less expensive and was worth it. My private sessions were very thorough and ... what they did worked! The place has a very nice feel to it, the people there are great, and I just liked being there. I think they are really aimed at offering health care that works

Much time has past since my graduation from this wonderful experience, where I learned how to diagnose and treat the causes of suffering with compassion and expertise, successfully. Some of my fondess memories of the nearly 10 years of metriculating through the newly formed systems of education established to support this marvelous model of medicine. The people that shared their lives with me over the nearly 4 years, days and nights, to learn this skill and art, are remembered with affection and respect. Thank you SBCOM, Administrators, Staff, Faculty, Alumni and Friends. Be In Good Health. L Dawson
