Monte's Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home was established in 1932 by the late D. Frank Monte. The business began in a small building on Bank Street in San Anselmo, where the Monte family lived upstairs. It moved to its present location, on the Miracle Mile, in 1937, the year the Golden Gate was opened.
D. Frank Monte was very active in the community. The San Rafael native was a graduate of San Rafael High School in 1928 and served twice as mayor and city councilman in San Anselmo. His wife, Alice Brown Monte, a San Anselmo native, assisted him in the business for many years.

Monte's Chapel of the Hills is HIGHLY Recommended in my book. Both Ed, owner, and Brian were extremely helpful and super responsive to email, text and calls in an extremely difficult time. What to do, when to do it, coordinating the multiple facets of a funeral; Monte's Chapel of the Hills does it in SPADES. We even had some special requests/inquiries like finding a Bag-Piper for Mom's burial and Ed came through AGAIN. Thanks Boys, you take good customer service to a new level.

In the hardest of times, Monte’s Chappell of The Hills was there helping us. From the moment we walked in the door, to the last detail of sending ashes out in personalized containers, they made every comfortable. They guided us though each step with grace and handled all the little items. I highly recommend Monte’s Chapel of the Hills.

During a difficult time, Brian from Montes Chapel was AMAZING! Amidst covid19 & all the issues that affect the ability to gather, he allowed us a unique visit. They stayed almost 2 hours after closing to accommodate our family. This was inexpensive & the best service anyone could ask for. Expect wonderful service & kindness. The lovely Art Deco chapel in Fairfax was built in the 1930s... also has a beautiful piano :)

If there was a way to give Montes Chapel 100 stars I would. Edward and his AMAZING staff showed my family so much compassion and kindness during the unexpected loss of my Husband. My praise to this business is without measure. I am so grateful to them for everything they did to allow my family to begin our healing process.
