Old Mill Hardwood Floors uses premium woods and the highest quality tools and products to ensure smooth surfaces and durable finishes. Old Mill Hardwood Floors has been providing wood flooring services in the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids area for over 10 years, but that does not mean we are new to the trade.

I started working with wood floors while living in Madison, WI over 25 years ago. With the arrival of our first child we decided to move back to Iowa City, my wife's home town. While living here I joined with other members of my wife's family in the wood flooring trade. With the close of that company I wanted to continue working with wood floors, so I started this company.

You've invested a lot in your wood floors, maintaining them will help them last a lifetime!
Wood is an incredible material! It adds warmth and beauty to just about everything, including floors. A unique aspect of wood is its durability. In the Iowa City area there are wood floors well over 140 years old that still look amazing. Of course they are still fairly new compared to the floors that are many hundreds of years old.
Whether we are sanding a newly installed or refinishing an existing floor, proper sanding technique is very important. Important also is using high quality machines and abrasives. How does this benefit you? Of course it adds to the beauty but it also contributes to the lasting durability. Floors don't necessarily need to be sanded completely smooth.
Take a moment and think about some of the wood floors you've seen and thought "Wow, those look amazing!". It's true, the wood played a large part, but it was the finish system used that really brings out the beauty and protects it from wear. Choosing the right finish system for your home is just as important as choosing the wood.

Jeff Kersbergen is the consummate professional. Every aspect of his work was done extremely well and in a timely manner, from coming to give his estimate to getting the work finished while we were out of town to the quality of the work done. Jeff had to blend our old oak floor with new flooring in the adjoining room and we cannot tell where one floor ends and the other begins. There's no doubt what Jeff did will last a lifetime, and there's no doubt I would recommend him to anyone.
