Our commitment to serving central Maine started in 1937 when Elwin L. Crosby, opened his first funeral home in Dexter. Our family also operates additional facilities in Corinna and Newport. Pictured here is our Dexter branch as it appeared in the 1940s. In this web site we hope to tell you a little about who we are, and what we have to offer to help you through the loss of a loved one.

Crosby & Neal Funeral Homes was founded by Elwin L. Crosby in 1937. During the 1950s, his son, Alton B. Crosby, and his son in law, A. Maurice Neal joined the firm. The next generation, consisting of Michael L. Crosby and Peter B. Neal, followed in their father's footsteps during the 1970s. We are proud to be independent and family owned since the beginning.
We understand that making the many decisions which come at a time of loss can be difficult. We offer our support by providing you with two options as you consider making immediate arrangements. With online Arrangements, you can take your time to select the arrangements which are best for your preferences and budget.
Most of us plan ahead in life. We plan for our wedding, our children's education, family vacations, and other significant expected life events. We also plan for the unexpected events of life by purchasing home, auto and medical insurance. Understanding the benefits of pre-planning has prompted many to take the step to plan their own arrangements.
Many who have undergone the emotional strain of arranging a funeral within hours of losing a loved one have made the choice to pre-plan their own funeral. Doing so lifts the burden from their loved ones by relieving decision-making pressure at a time of grief and emotional stress. Funeral arrangements are a deeply personal choice.
Most of us are not prepared to plan and carry out a funeral ceremony for someone we love. And so much of the information available on this critically important subject fails to focus on what is most important: having a personalized, meaningful funeral that helps families and friends begin the healing process of mourning after the death of someone we love.

I am absolutely disgusted with the way this company is run!! my boyfriends father passed away in our home tonight at about 9:30pm and it is now midnight and several calls later and we still have not heard from them!! 2 1/2 hours after his passing and we are now trying to find someone to take him. no family should have to have this happen to them! its hard enough to lose a loved one and then to add insult to injury to have to go through the process of setting up services while he is laying here , which was supposed to have already been taken care of . I will never allow a loved one to be cared for

The family was very pleased that Crosby & Neal was able to book a Navy Color Guard for my father's recent service. The funeral home walked us through filling out the VA form for a headstone and flag and submitted the paperwork for us. It was extremely helpful, as no one in the family was familiar with the process. Mike understands that death services are expensive. He itemized every service for us to compare against the funeral home's standard package in order to determine which approach was the most economical. They even took care of ordering the number of death certificates the family would
