If there is one name that can be considered pretty much synonymous with contemporary yoga, it is T.Krishnamacharya. Son and student of T.Krishnamacharya, TKV.Desikachar is known for his inimitable ability of demystifying yoga. One of Chennai's most well-known yoga landmarks is Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram (KYM).

Established by TKV Desikachar in 1976 as a non-profit Public Charitable Trust, KYM is among the premier centres of yoga and yoga therapy in India. KYM is recognised by Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) as one of the lead yoga institutes in India.
Services
The KYM offers a number of intensives focusing on specific aspects of Yoga such as philosophy, asana, pranayama, meditation and yoga therapeutics. Also, on our annual calendar are intensives focusing exclusively on healing chants and their integration with asana, pranayama and meditation. For an immersion into all the core insights and teachings from the KYM tradition, the four week Heart Of Yoga is a very popular course too.
Customised Yoga therapy interventions for adults and children is the hallmark of the Krishnamacharya Tradition. In KYM's approach the multiple tools of yoga are adapted to suit individual needs and capabilities, making the KYM one of the most renowned centres for yoga therapy in the world.

The collective experience of KYM's yoga therapists, many of whom have been trained by TKV Desikachar over four decades is well documented with care seekers' record numbering nearly a 1,00,000.Yoga therapy interventions are only offered one-on-one, following the unique teaching style of TKV Desikachar.
It was T Krishnamacharya's vision that yoga reaches as many as possible, especially those who cannot afford to learn or who are differently abled. Through KYM's MITRA division, we offer free yoga training to a large number of socially and economically underprivileged children and adults in Chennai and outside as well.
KYM-Daranam was a quarterly journal of the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram, devoted to Yoga and related aspects of Indian culture, as taught by r T Krishnamacharya. KYM-Daranam was very well received by readers across the world and was valued for the authenticity of its contents and its adherence to the tradition of r T Krishnamacharya.
KYM has an active and dynamic research wing that is constantly engaged in researching the various theoretical and applied aspects of yoga. The research department's mission is to bring to light the lesser-known aspects of yoga and to demonstrate the inherent scientific rationale that is evinced in the individualised approach to Yoga therapy.

A good place to learn traditional yoga. Not a fitness-orientated approach, focus is on breathing, stamina and control. Small classes with experienced teachers in the morning and evening, 50 minutes duration. Yoga classes for kids in the afternoons as well.
