For over 30 years, Mide Technology, a Hutchinson Company, has been an innovative, agile and proven engineering services and research & development firm located in Woburn, 12 miles north of Boston MA. Over 60 employees deliver innovative products and solutions to our customers in US government agencies (Department of Defense, NASA, etc.), and throughout the commercial sector.
Through our growth and interactions with thousands of customers, two things have became evident. Firstly, there is a real need in the shock, vibration, and environmental sensing community for a dedicated platform, and secondly, the technology behind our popular Slam Stick products could be leveraged for even greater sensing systems.
Following the USS Cole bombing, the US Navy entrusted Mide Technology to develop an innovative and effective solution for the Navy's failing bulkhead shaft seals on Arleigh Burke Class destroyers (DDG), the result of which was Mide's Reliant and Omni Bulkhead Shaft Seal products. Mide's solution involved designing and developing a seal that utilized smart material technology and advanced engineering and production processes.
Mide's innovative line of non-contacting HydroActive bulkhead shaft seals provides an extremely reliable and low total ownership cost sealing solution. Developed for the US Navy, the patented design utilizes hydrogel embedded foam to engage and seal against the spinning shaft only when water is present.
