Virginia Green
Our founder, Gil Grattan, was born and raised in Williamsburg, Virginia before attending Clemson University in South Carolina. Upon graduation, Gil started a career in the golf course industry before moving to North Carolina in 1994. He began selling lawn fertilization products to golf courses, nurseries, sod farms, and other lawn care providers across the state for over a decade.

This experience provided Gil with expert knowledge on all facets of lawn care including sales, operations and marketing. In 2004, Gil moved back to Richmond and started Virginia Green. When Virginia Green first began, our company was solely based in Richmond and serviced two markets- Richmond and Williamsburg.
Services
Virginia Green is not a national chain. For over fifteen years, we've proudly been Virginia-based, delivering unparalleled lawn care service to the thousands of customers across Virginia who trust us to make their lawns looks their best. Our certified technicians and in-house agronomists (soil scientists) understand local weather, turf, and insects-and understand how to use that expertise to help local lawns thrive.
Virginia Green can make your lawn the envy of your neighborhood. Our Service Leaders and in-house agronomists (soil scientists) provide customized programs that eliminate weeds while bringing you a green, vibrant and healthy lawn.

Whether you have cool season grasses (such as Tall Fescue) or warm season grasses (like Bermudagrass or Zoysia), our programs will deliver what your lawn needs to thrive, including fertilization, weed control and insect protection. Our goal is your complete satisfaction - satisfaction with the look and feel of your lawn and with our services.
With double-core aeration and a customized, weed-free seed blend, Virginia Green offers the area's top aeration and seeding service. Plus, our customized lawn care programs are designed to eliminate weeds while bringing you a green, vibrant, and healthy lawn that you'll love.

Aeration allows nutrients, water, and oxygen to penetrate deep into the soil, while seeding is a must for Tall Fescue grasses, which don't regenerate and must be reseeded each year to establish new growth.Together, both are crucial for your lawn's health. For cool season lawns, aeration and seeding begins at the end of August and is completed at the end of October.
Virginia Green inspects and treats for insects, disease and weather damage as a part of its comprehensive tree and shrub program. Our Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and deep root fertilization processes ensure that your ornamental trees and shrubs are protected against damaging insects and properly fed for growth and color.
Every lawn is unique - what is best for another lawn may not be best for yours. Virginia Green makes it easy to customize programs with additional services, to make sure that your lawn gets the specialized care that it needs. Aeration and seeding are crucial for your lawn's health. With double-core aeration and a proprietary, 100% weed-free seed blend, Virginia Green has the area's top aeration and seeding service.

I have had aeration and seeding and the Plan Maintenance program since 2020 and have not seen any improvement in the quality of my lawn. I previously received letters at the beginning of the new new plan year offering a incentive to prepay for a slight reduction in cost. They treated my yard the past two years in early January without any notification or offer to prepay. Last year I called after the first service and was given the option to prepay. Since I have seen no improvement with my lawn I was planning on cancelling their service for this plan year. I feel they provide the services based

I decided to do lime and aerating, and seeding ,after looking at the yard I could not find a lot of seed .in the summer I added my back yard to the program. I was unable to get the back yard aerating and seed added its a lot of money.after the first year and looking at how well my seed came upon yard looks. SO MUCH BETTER!!!! Absolute awesome - can’t go wrong with them! Professional and “good” quality! They have gone far and beyond with our lawn (looks real good!!!). Paid for my lawn to be aerated and seeded. The guy shows up and tells me he needed the sprinkler system to be flagged and this was all in an email sent out the prior week.

I told them I had no idea i needed to be checking my email so did not know I needed to flag the sprinklers.

He said "Thats not our fault. This is 2021 you should be checking your email."

Fair enough, but is that really you something you say to a paying customer?

Then he told me since there were no flags, we would have to reschedule and they wouldn't be able to come back out until early November.

Again

I’ve never dealt with such an unresponsive, unreliable company in my life. I paid a lot of money for aeration and “over seeding” and I got aeration. I got home on September 8th and saw not one seed of grass on my entire lawn. Left a message with no return call. Called again with no return call. Called again and was told someone stopped by my home and seeded my lawn. Great! Got home and saw zero seed. I will get my money back and already called my lawyer. Do not give your hard earned money to Virginia Green. Extremely unresponsive and they don’t do the right thing.

Critical: Quality
Called to get help with my lawn. $21.oo for seed that never came. And $47 bucks for a Tech to spend 5min putting fertilizer on it. I can do that. I have to say it was not the Teach, its the service they offer. Canceled after one day

Had heard generally positive comments about VaGreen so decided to try them - learned quickly that what might have been a good company at one time, was no longer; seemingly got too big and forgot about customer service and retention. Simply, just about the worst customer service and communication that I have ever encountered. Signed up for service via the phone. Had a detailed discussion with the representative regarding prices and treatments. He did not mention doing a walkthrough (just asked about the size of the yard) so I asked - he indicated that he would come by and take a look (apparently

Have been a customer for 13 years and have to say that customer service has definitely gone down hill. When we 1st started with them it was easy to get some one on the phone , or at least a prompt call back. This morning I waited on hold for 25 minutes before a human picked up - it was their answering service , not someone who could help - all they did was take my name and info. I believe this organization just isn't interested in keeping customers as I see lots of advertising for new customers and constantly receive emails from them to upgrade services ( we have been on the estate plan for 13

I contracted with Va. Green for regular lawn care in Jun. 2020--the first treatment was 6/10/'20--aerated/seeded in the Fall--through the Fall and Winter the grass grew and the lawn looked great--by the Spring of 2021 it was lush and green--as advertised--may 2021 it was the way I had hoped it would be. June. 9th. 2021 the company came and sprayed fungacide within two weeks sections of the lawn began to dry up--grass turned brown--in spite of rain and watering. July 7th. they came and sprayed lime--that treatment pushed the lawn further toward drying up--during this time we had rain and

Virginia green is the 3rd company I have used. They are great. I have now had them for 2 yrs & the improvement is super noticeable. Two of my neighbors started using them after seeing their results. Our tech, is very conscientious caring of your needs & most important of all, knowledgeable about horticulture. What a pleasure to work with a professional as opposed to someone just laying down fertilizer or any othe chemical & cant wait to get to his next stop. Thank you Thomas & Virginia Green

2021 would have been our second season with Virginia Green. In 2020, we used them to control weeds on our Zoysia lawn and, even though they claimed to not have a "warm season grass" program, the treatments that they provided made remarkable improvements in our lawn. The problems began when they performed a Fall aeration without notifying me that there was an additional charge for it ( and I even tipped the technician for his hard work that day ). Then, when the 2021 season was beginning, I was notified that their services were "automatically renewed unless cancelled" -- At no time was this explained

I've had VA Green for 2 seasons now. Both times when they aerated, they managed to clip my irrigation system even though I flagged all the areas where they should have avoided. Couple hundred bucks out of pocket in repairs each time. Lesson learned: I'll never let VA Green aerate again.

I have bare spots in my lawn despite VA Green having seeded my lawn for 2 years. I called them early this spring and asked to purchase a bag of grass seed so I could attend to the bald spots myself. They said they would fix the bare spots for me free of charge -- but they didn't do it... and I

I've been with Virginia Green for well over 15 years for both lawn and shrub treatment. I wouldn't consider going with anyone else. Just had my annual over-seeding done and the technicians, Jovon and Adam, did a great job. They were very professional, efficient and friendly. They walked the yard with me before the service, asked for any specific concerns I had and answered all my questions.

Unimpressed. When I complained, I was told that we had only used them for a year and they could fix the rampant crabgrass but there would be an upcharge. The yard looks no better than it did when we started with them a year ago and it costs way more than going to the store and buying Scotts. We paid extra for aeration and seeding. We have an irrigation system so everything was watered regularly. We were told that it is hard to have a nice yard in Virginia. I guess they should move their business to a state where you can grow grass well.

Disappointed and Extremely upset anytime i look out my window, come outside, or pull up to my property. Im highly upset at the services from Virginia Green lawn care. They destroyed my entire front and back yard. Im left with nothing but a bunch of weeds, dirt patches, the worst lawn on my street and their excuses on how it could not be their fault.

They never took accountability, only tried to fast talk me and point the finger. A little back story, I purchased my home in September of 2019 and one thing I wanted was as a new home owner was a beautiful lawn, so I immediately looked for a professional
