My design influence is a synthesis of Japanese, Shaker, Arts & Crafts, Art Nouveau and Organic Form. This provides a liberating way to harmoniously present each piece of wood. Others who have inspired me are Charles and Henry Greene, George Nakashima, Sam Maloof, James Krenov and John Makepeace to name a few.
Gorgeous wood, interesting design and attention to detail are the hallmarks of my work. I take great satisfaction in book matching wood. As much as possible, I try to incorporate this technique into my designs. When seeking out lumber, I'll often look for consecutively sawn boards and in some cases the entire log section.

Designing and building furniture is a personal affair & often a collaboration wth other artists. The Grain of Thought team consists of a talented group of professionals that hail from diverse backgrounds. Some come to us as apprentices to learn the fundamentals of our craft. Others are design students with diplomas in furniture making from the most impressive schools in the United States.

Since the day that we met woodworker Johnny Geraghty at a trade show, we have been in awe of his talent. Even among the skilled artisans at the event, Johnny’s work distinguished him from the others.
