Hatch Transformers was founded in 1985 to design and manufacture electronic compact fluorescent ballasts and electronic low voltage transformers for the lighting industry. At the time, virtually all non-incandescent lamps were powered by heavy and inefficient magnetic power supplies. With its first products launching in 1985, Hatch was one of only two companies manufacturing electronic transformers for these two new burgeoning lighting markets.
Original circuits for both of these product lines were developed in Tampa by Michael Hatch and manufactured locally. In the early 1990s, manufacturing was moved to southern China to keep pace with the growth of the company. Toward the end of the 1990s, Hatch began a development program to identify opportunities in advanced lighting technologies and began development of Electronic HID ballasts.
