Acupuncture is a treatment based on the ancient Chinese theory that the body's energy (Qi) flows along 12 main meridians and 8 extraordinary meridians. The smooth flow of qi in the meridians corresponds to radiant health and longevity, disruptions in the flow of qi result in blockages and pain.

Acupuncture, along with Chinese herbal medicine, Chinese medical massage (Tui Na) and medical Qi Gong, has been a major part of primary healthcare in China for the last 5,000 years. It is used extensively for a variety of medical purposes ranging from the prevention and treatment of disease to relieving pain and reducing side-effects of conventional medical treatments.
Dr. Borisova is an active member of the Acupuncture Society of New York (ASNY) and The National Guild of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (NGAOM). Her other related interests include traditional medicine systems (Yoga, Ayurveda, various teachings of herbalism and dietary therapies), humane treatment of animals, organic and locally sourced nutrition, and green, environmental and organic policies.
Acupuncture's many preventative health and therapeutic benefits are now widely recognized. As a result, health insurance providers increasingly pay (at least in part) for necessary acupuncture treatment. The Affordable Care Act has introduced the parity of licensed providers of medical services, allowing patients to seek care from any health care provider licensed in their state and expect reimbursement.
I began experiencing lower back pain that radiated down my left leg after I was involved in a car accident. Two months of treatment by a chiropractor did little to alleviate my discomfort. I was living on Motrin and feeling very discouraged. At my wit?s end, I was ready to try anything that might offer some relief.
