Campana Woodworking
Campana Woodworking [link to Contact Us Page] was established in 1978, offering high-quality furniture repair, refinishing, and custom built furniture in Elbun, IL. Our local clients of the Geneva, St. Charles, and the Batavia area, along with all of Chicagoland have known our passion for producing the high quality in custom furniture, repair, design, and service.

Building and furniture repair is an art that must be practiced continually. Quality in handcrafted custom-built furniture and repair is backed-up with excellence in service. Creating what the customer conceives of and wants is fundamental. The challenge is to develop our customer's concept to create a unique piece that is specific to your tastes and wants.
Services
Please understand, Chinese craftsmen build specialty woodworking products in a truly unique way. The entire chair is assembled at once, not in steps. All the joints interlock and support each other eliminating any mechanical fasteners such as nails and screws. Thus, if one joint were to fail, in order for the chair to come apart, many of the joints would have to fail at the same time.
So, one day I was repairing a chair that had been in a tragedy and thought I'd show some of the repair in pictures. Note that this account shows a limited number of techniques but may be interesting. Please also note the picture showing what you do NOT want to see used on your chairs- screws. It is important to understand that nothing beats the time honored methods of good fitting joints and proper glue application.
The photos presented here are divided into 6 groups. They are: New Furniture, Repaired & Refinished, Custom King Size Bed, Specialty Products, Whimsey Boxes (for fun) and Cabinets (an example of past work for your interest). The goal here is not to show every project completed over the past forty years.
When people come to me with furniture construction projects, often they have an idea as to what they want. It is usually a mental picture that needs to be "firmed-up" with a good deal of discussion and chicken-scratch drawings. The process can take some twists and turns- a small change here and a tweek there.
For your information, we can produce custom built-in cabinets also and have for years. Feel free to ask. I'm here to help the customer whether producing what they want or getting them to someone else that can help. This project truly demonstrates many of the fine features you can receive from Campana Woodworking and others not mentioned.

Jim repaired a maple table which is maybe 80-100 years old. It's been passed down to us and we use it daily as our kitchen table so we wanted to seek out options to address boards that were separating and a crack that was running off course and splitting one of the boards. We are so pleased we found Campana Woodworking. Jim is methodical in his approach, which is needed with older pieces of furniture. From stripping away layers of varnish/lacquer and sanding down to the raw wood, cleaning out old glue, repairing the table top boards where you can't even see there was ever a split (no new boards

I fell in a chair that is over 150 years old and broke off the leg. I thought all was lost but Jim did an absolutely fabulous job making a new leg and fixing the chair so that it looks new. I am anxious to take another antique piece of furniture for him to repair. You can't go wrong using this company.

Brought my antique Ethan Allen armoire in to have Jim give me an estimate for repairing both doors. One was very badly damaged.
He gave me what I thought was a very reasonable estimate considering how much work was needing to be done to restore it back to its original condition. He let me know that he had prior commitments to other customers ahead of me, but he would work on it as soon as he could. He did give me a date, but did let me know that it might be later than expected. Jim thanked me repeatedly for being patient.
Believe me, it was worth the wait! Jim did an amazing job! Better than

The craftsmanship and service was excellent. Our furniture looked better than when we first bought it after being refinished. Jim went the extra mile in talking me through sanding and restaining our front door at no additional charge. He was prompt and very honest throughout our entire experience with him. We would highly recommend his services.

Well he did it again. Jim just dropped off the fourth piece that he’s restored, repaired or refinished in four years. Again, I’m blown away by his skilled detail and craftsmanship. His work isn’t done until he says it’s done. I wouldn’t take anything that I care about anywhere else. He’s always busy, he’s that good. Always worth the time and the cost. Thank you Jim!

I highly recommend Jim. I needed a minor repair to a set of dining room chairs. Jim was able to meet with me, repair the chairs and provide some maintenance recommendations moving forward to help prevent future problems. The cost was extremely reasonable. After the repair, I got the opportunity to tour the shop and see some Jim's amazing work.

This is now my go-to place for any woodworking needs!

We first contacted Jim to repair a 30 year old oak sofa table that had a bad water stain and cracked top. After his repair it looked brand new. We were so impressed we asked him to build a king size bed. We wanted a style to match our existing bedroom furniture. After researching various designs we told him what we wanted and he drew up three plans. He not only took our ideas into consideration but offered suggestions of his own and was respectful to our overall design concept. We visited his shop a number of times during the construction process to ensure we were on the same page and at those

I had an old industrial steel stool with a solid ash seat that I wanted to give as a gift (as it had some family history to it). It was not in very good condition, though, - needed a lot of sanding and had been painted an orange-yellow color. Jim did an incredible job. In fact, I didn't think it was the same piece of wood, until I flipped it over and saw the old lettering underneath. Way better than I expected. It is now a nice piece of furniture that will look good in the kitchen or any room. Thanks so much, Jim.

Great experience. I wanted a small table to complement my 20 year old bedroom furniture. I explained what I wanted and left the design up to Jim. Before beginning to build the table, he provided a drawing for my approval. The finished product is exactly what I wanted. The finish is beautiful and the table complements my existing furniture very well. I will use Campana Woodworking for my next project - a child's table and chairs set.
