An appointment to evaluate and inform you of the current status of your teeth and jaws from an orthodontic perspective and discuss treatment options available for your particular problem. Why? By seeing your child around the age of 7, we can monitor the eruption of their permanent teeth in an attempt to reduce the risk of more complicated and expensive future treatments had they gone unmonitored.
Braces that are not properly brushed and a diet that is high in acidic and sugary foods can contribute to tooth decay. It's not worth having straight teeth if they have decalcification (the white spots you see on the picture on the left) and decay on them. We need your help in making your smile beautiful and cavity-free.
These retainers are made of a clear plastic material. They surround the teeth in all three dimensions. They are good choice for patients that are highly concerned about aesthetics. Care: They should be cleaned with either an effervescent denture tablet or a soft toothbrush without any toothpaste. Toothpaste has an abrasive that will scratch the retainer and make them less aesthetic and more difficult to keep clean.
In short, No! But, generally no one gets braces before their permanent teeth erupt. An initial consultation is recommended at Age 7. It is rare for treatment to begin at that age, but it helps ensure treatment isn't made more difficult in the future by unmonitored problems. Usually treatment begins around age 11 or 12, but patients with good hygiene and periodontal health can usually get braces at any age.
