Geotech Consultants
Established in 1986, Geotech Consultants, Inc. is a successful, full-service, earth sciences company. Based in Seattle, Washington, the company is locally owned. While our engineers, technicians, geologists, and environmental assessors are involved in projects throughout the Puget Sound region, we have worked in the entire Pacific Northwest.

Our engineers are registered in the states of Oregon and Washington. The staff possess many years of experience in the profession and contribute various professional and educational backgrounds. The diversity of disciplines includes geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering, and geology, along with a basic knowledge of civil and structural engineering.
Services
Flat, easily developed land is now almost non-existent in the Puget Sound region. More than ever before, difficult soil, slope, or groundwater conditions require the expertise of knowledgeable geotechnical engineers to develop solutions to site constraints. A well-planned development, large or small, starts with a thorough geotechnical study, involving subsurface explorations or a review of existing geologic information.
The rules keep changing - property transactions are no longer simple. As the risk and liability increase, so does your need for environmental advice you can trust. As awareness of environmental issues has grown, so have the number of laws governing property uses and transactions. We specialize in helping developers, lending institutions, and individuals assess the condition of land they own, plan to purchase, or want to develop.
Time-based fee methods are based on the premise that Consulting Engineers are reimbursed for their costs to deliver services plus a reasonable profit for their business. Clients should be aware that these time-based fee methods provide an opportunity to overcome the many uncertainties that often exist at the start of a project.
For those projects where a clearly defined scope of services is agreed to by a Client and the Engineer, fees can reasonably be established as a Lump Sum fee. In these cases, both the Client and the Consulting Engineer should be clear in their written agreement as to the scope of work and the extent and level of service to be provided.

Marc McGinnis, the principal Geotech engineer was phenomenal. I just had an offer accepted on a house in West Seattle on a steep slope next to a greenbelt with multiple failed retaining walls and I wanted expert advice. I wanted to know how worried to be, how I might go about fixing things, how urgent those fixes were, and what permits and rules I needed to be considering. Marc gave me that advice and more. In an hour long appointment I learned about what it means to build on fill on a slope, he evaluated the stability of the house, yard, and front and back retaining walls separately, and gave

The person who came was very nice and personable. Talked with me for almost an hour. Then nothing except a bill for over $400. We waited for a report of some kind because we weren’t told we should’ve been taking copious notes during the site visit. They referred us to someone for drainage: another awful experience of paying and getting nothing in return. 7 months later another bill from geotech so we said we’d pay once we got any kind of a report. Because their referral out was awful we solved our issue without them or their referral. Geotech response? They’d emailed their report but to

I have been Using Geotech Consultants for may years and have experienced nothing but 'excellent' professional services from them. They have performed at the highest level meeting demanding schedules, our local bureaucracies never ending requests for data in a timely and knowledgeable manner, and have gone out of their way to help on the rare occasions I have needed services with short notice.
Geotech Consultants has always billed me fairly for work requested and performed , rounding out my great experience with them!

Geotech Consultants are the mark that all consultants should strive for. They know their area of expertise and even more importantly, they help find creative solutions that satisfy our project determinants. They are also practical, by that I mean they find solutions that are appropriate for the conditions without spending money on what isn’t necessary. The first move I make on a new project is to call Marc at Geotech. I have been doing that for 3 decades.

We had a very challenging critical slope situation - more so with the City than the actual slope/geotechnical aspects - that Marc McGinnis very ably and efficiently helped us successfully navigate. We very highly recommend both him and his firm. Evelyn & Philo Hall

I cannot speak to the technical work by Geotech. My contractor seems to appreciate their work. I have had very unpleasant interactions with the Geotech accounting department. They sent my first invoices to the wrong address but then got worked up about not getting the payment. I gave them my credit card immediately after they contacted me when they discovered their error. My quick response and payment did not stop Geotech from sending me a collection threat and their A/R person calling me at work after they mis-sent a second invoice - and they already had my credit card info.
