Hi! My name is Dr. Daniel Peikes. While I was born in New York City, I moved to North Jersey when I was 7 years old and was raised there. After graduating with honors from Touro College, I went on to earn my D.M.D. from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) - New Jersey Dental School (NJDS), earning Dean's List honors multiple times.
Oral health care is important even before your baby has teeth. Daily oral care for an infant consists of wiping the gums with a wet washcloth. Around the age of 6 months, your baby's first teeth will erupt. The first teeth to erupt are the lower central incisors. Once your baby has teeth it is time to introduce a finger toothbrush with training toothpaste to the daily oral health care routine.
Children are not small adults! They think differently and look at the world differently that adults do, so we approach their dental care from that perspective. We never jump right into treatment, whether it be a cleaning or restoring cavities. We always talk about what we will be doing, show children the instruments that we will be using while demonstrating each one, and then we slowly start treatment.
Here at Montville Pediatric Dentistry, we are proud to be able to offer nitrous oxide analgesia for our patients. Nitrous oxide is a very safe form of sedation. It is inhaled and the effects start within a few seconds. It can be adjusted quickly if a patient is too light or too deep. It has very little side effects and hardly any effects on the kidneys, liver, brain, and more.

Our 3 year daughter prematurely knocked out her two front teeth after falling. Montville Pediatric Dentistry was amazing with us from the very beginning. They have super convenient hours and the staff is so great with kids. Her pediatric partials came out so beautiful and we have our smiley girl back!
