Services
Welcome to Joe Bike, Portland's home for high-performance urban, touring, bikepacking, and gravel bikes. We're a full-service neighborhood bike shop with a national and international clientele. We carry components and accessories from Gates, Brooks, Velo Orange, Planet Bike, Soma, Busch & Mueller, Sinewave Cycles, Shutter Precision, Ortlieb, Schwalbe, Schmidt, Rohloff, White Industries, and others.
So what is this Straggler anyway? The easy answer is to say that we added disc brakes to a Cross-Check and this is close to accurate. People have asked us to make a disc version of our highly versatile Cross-Check for a long time now and almost everything about the two are very similar. Straggler is slightly different, though.
Fargo Apex 1 is Salsa's drop-bar off-road touring bike built to shatter limits. Ride it on singletrack, gravel, or other places you wouldn't take your standard touring bike. A triple-butted steel frame and huge tire clearance provide cushion on rugged roads. Alternator dropouts allow for any drivetrain you can imagine, and cargo mounts let you carry enough to go days between resupplies.
The Ignite SLX is the top hardtail model in Ridley's cross country mountain bike range. This MTB features an extremely ingenious carbon lay-up which is key in achieving such amazing riding characteristics that you'll feel from the first pedal stroke. They use Toray Carbon with high tensile strength for the front end of the bike.
Origin-8's Drop Ends provide a great way to turn an ordinary flat handlebar into a dropped bar so that you have more riding positions for added comfort and efficiency plus optimum aerodynamics. This cool upgrade simply bolts onto the ends of your flat bar and is made of light and durable 6061 T6 aluminum with a nice bead-blast finish.

The folks at this shop are so kind! The customer service earns them 5 stars from me.
I contacted the shop because they had a bike in stock that I'd had my eye on for a bit. I told them that I was driving down from Seattle and wanted to make sure it was in stock. They had it, but the bike was not built. They offered to quickly build it for me so I could come test ride it 2 days later. They called me 2x to update me on the progress.
When I got to the shop, I ended up buying the bike. They were very kind to me and I enjoyed being helped by Tommy (I am 70% sure that is his name, but I am not

I brought my "new" bike as of April 2021 in for the "90" day tune-up. They were more than accomodating to still honor the tune-up. On top of that they pointed out a bent chainring issue that, honestly, I would've just chalked up to the shifting being off or something else. They were professional and communicative through the warranty and repair process while fixing the issue with no hassles at all. Thank you.

Hands down the best bike shop in Portland for non electric bikes! Matt got my bike done earlier than expected, they helped me measure my new chain, and are helping me make a Xmas wish come true. And I can not BELIEVE how affordable and friendly they are! The labor and new parts cost less than expected, by a lot!, and I felt like a truly valued customer. Will return for any future work! 💘

Awesome shop! Everyone is warm, friendly and super welcoming. They assembled a bike for me and I've had several repairs done there. Everything was completed in record time and the cost of the repairs and parts were all super reasonable. The crew at Job Bike go above and beyond! As a person with three bikes, I feel fortunate to have such a great shop in my neighborhood.

They charge way too much for labor. I would expect that from Bike Gallery/Trek corporate chain, but usually local shops are not this greedy. I was about to have kick stand shortened and they wanted $8.00! I rode down to Tomcat Bikes and the guy did it for free in 12 seconds. I gave him a coffee card just because... I mean how cool is that!

It all started with Joe Bike having the bike I wanted — a Marin Nicasio +. Like the bike and have converted it to a fun gravel EBike (fwd). Took it in for 90 day tune up and got to experience activity in the store. Tune up was quick, thorough, and garnished with good bike conversations. Great group and place!

These people are hella nice and actually seem to love their jobs. Super cool and not condescending. Okay honestly this review is from years ago and I'm only writing it now but my husband did take my bike in recently for some work. They were still swamped and told him that I was to expect it back in a month.
Got it back in *a week*.
Love this place!

The shop has a well thought out array of merch. My customer experience was not good.
I put a deposit on a bike after riding one that had a hold deposit for someone else. "It's in a container on the ocean, it should be in Vancouver BC in two weeks", I was told.
Call 4 weeks later...still not there. "Please don't sell it to someone else" I asked.
"We would never do that!" OK.
I patiently wait two more weeks....Finally got a VM, "Great News! Your bike is here!...there have been a couple of changes....it's the next year's model, the color

Pretty rude people work here. I bought a bike here and I really wished I hadn't. They said they offer a tune up, but I had to leave the state for a while to help a family member who had cancer, and since I wasn't able to ring it in right at the 3 month mark, they would not honor it. And to top it all off, they treated my horribly and were very rude about all of it. It's really sad that people act like this one another. Very disappointed.

As an experienced bikeshop employee and lasting bicycle enthusiast, I give Joe Bike a solid 5/5. We have been all over the greater Portland area looking for a MTB and found no place more inviting or more positive than Joe Bike. It was by chance that they had a bike, as that is just the way the industry is right now, but that wasn't what earned 5 stars. Their attention to service and explanation of bike features as well as their insight of the bicycle community was unmatched in our vast tour of Portland bikeshops this week.

Great people. Fair prices. Good work. Honest advice. I ride a bike. A lot. These guys have been taking care of me and my bikes for 5 years. Many times I've stopped by and told them I thought I needed what might be an expensive repair, and many times they've made a minor adjustment and sent me on my way without that expensive repair, because I didn't need it. I've often witnessed how they treat newbie cyclists, and I've always been impressed by how they never try to sell them expensive things they don't need, often steering them to lower-priced products. Just a great

I recently purchased a new gravel bike from Joe Bike and the whole experience was the best I’ve had in a bike shop. I don’t know a ton about bikes and they were super patient and informative. A few days after I bought my bike from them, the chain got gunked up from the factory lube on it and they offered to clean it all up right away. I can’t thank the staff enough, Matthew especially for being so helpful and kind. Huge props to this shop, it’ll definitely be my new go-to.

Joe Bike made my wildest dreams come true. I've been dreaming of a steel 1x11 for a while and Joe had the perfect inventory to choose from. Unfortunately I live in Washington State, but I was able to chat with them on the phone to determine the perfect fit. They were closing down for a week due to COVID, starting the day after my order and they made an extra effort to box it up and ship. Much appreciated, I'm one super satisfied customer! Highly recommend this shop!

Just moved to Portland and needed a new bike. Thanks to the pandemic, there is a shortage of bikes but one caught my eye. I emailed the shop and received quick replies (on Monday, when they're closed) and arranged to test ride on Tuesday. It was a sunny day and the shop was busy! Matthew helped me out and walked me through test rides of two nice bikes that were fitted to me. I came away with a great ride, helmet and a couple of water bottles. Fantastic, no pressure service with just the right amount of attention. I love the bike and look forward to putting many miles on it. Free tune

Joe Bike was available for drop in flat tire service in the middle of the pandemic. $20 and 15 minutes later, I was on my way. They even noticed my seat was loose and out of alignment and fixed that as well. Super happy with the service. And to whomever was complaining about them requiring masks, I wouldn't have done service with them UNLESS they were wearing and requiring them - that's the only way to safely operate right now and minimize risk for everyone involved.

As the owner replied quickly and was very nice, I am upping to three stars.
This place gives a whole new meaning to indifferent customer care.
Yes, we are on the older side of the spectrum and no, no beards adorn our faces, but to be so ignored is a new level of poor service.
There were three staff members and the two of us.
Thankfully, there is no shortage of bike shops in Portland.

Still one of the best places to take your bike when it needs work. These guys know bikes... or, they mostly do ... I share the following anecdote so that others heed a similar red flag. On a recent trip to Joe, with a sunny day not unlike those before or after it, I was alerted to the fact that derailleur cables can NEVER be used as a straddle cable. Yeah. In what can sound like typical LBS know-it-all oration (read: elitist), I was given an explanation, short and pointed, as to why these thin cables simply couldn't be used in this capacity. Only, for years extending back much longer than
