A: Yes, you need an architect and - ideally - a designer to get started. The first step is to hire an architect who can put your ideas and visions in a blueprint. Your contractor will need specific blueprints and engineering to be able to give you a bid. If you don't have an architect yet, let us know and we can refer you to reputable architects in the area.

My family and I decided to make a modest addition to our new home in Louisville, a pop-top over one of our home's split-levels. After reviewing three detailed quotes and one ballpark quote, we hired Silver Contracting to construct this addition. Silver Contracting's quote was the lowest of the three detailed quotes, quite similar to the ballpark quote, and most in line with our budget. Moreover, Silver Contracting had strong online reviews and references, and our architect (and another architect whom we considered) thought that Silver Contracting would be a good match for our project. This is the second project we have contracted with Silver Contracting and once again they did not disappoint. Elliot and his team worked tirelessly to ensure the basement in our new home was finished to our complete satisfaction.

We chose Silver Contracting for a home addition in 2004. It was a true pleasure to work with Elliot and his team on this project. We were trying to maintain the feel of the original farmhouse while adding more space and modern design features. Elliot listened closely to our needs and had an intuitive sense on how to make things work. We had some of the normal surprises pop-up that occur when renovating an older home and Elliot was very flexible in helping to resolve problems and provided very reasonable pricing for change orders.
