At LNS we use an Emergent Curriculum that focuses on being responsive to every children's interests and spend much of our time outdoors. We love getting to know each child individually and we listen carefully to their thoughts, feelings, and ideas. Every summer LNS holds a a two week summer camp in June focused on nature and water activities.

The Color Wheel Summer Camp program runs in the mornings and is carefully designed to match the levels of preschool and kindergarten children. As a non-profit, cooperative preschool we appreciate any and all donations. Every contribution goes toward scholarship monies, extracurricular activities and maintaining our enriching experience with the Vermont Institute of Natural Science in our classrooms.
Services
Lyme Nursery School is a non-profit, cooperative nursery school whose purpose is to promote the social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and artistic growth of young children. This is accomplished by fostering self-esteem, self-control, respect for others, and a sense of security with both peers and adults.
Our wonderful staff members have degrees in early childhood education, considerable knowledge and experience in child development, and are certified in child first aid and CPR. Each preschool class has two teachers providing a good ratio of adults to students. Kelly Downing (Ms Kelly) is our director and primary teacher for the 4-year-old program, as well as the extended day program.
The school year generally starts in early September. Parents will be notified of the dates on a year-to-year basis. Before term begins, there is usually a meeting for parents to attend in late August and, additionally, there is an Ice Cream Social with parents and children invited. The Ice Cream Social takes place close to the first day of school.
Among the many Upper Valley summer camps for kids, what makes Camp Color Wheel special is its strong focus on art and nature. We spend as much time outside as possible, exploring the outdoors and bringing nature into our projects. The varied activities provide lots of fun and our experienced staff take time to get to know each child.
Although LNS is not a true cooperative, we still rely a great deal on the voluntary efforts of our parents to make our school run smoothly. In addition to serving on the Board and driving on field trips, there are many ways to help out - making snacks for special events, assisting the fundraising chairperson in activities or participating in assorted projects - the possibilities are endless!
