Jack Bogle is the founder of the Vanguard Group, and a life-long champion of investor rights. We were fortunate enough to spend some time with Jack, and he mentioned that when he joined the industry over fifty years ago, it was a profession. Investment advisors acted as true stewards of their clients' money.

These days, revenue generation typically trumps stewardship. Firms are intent on growth, and too often make sacrifices in quality and service in the name of size. At our firm, the investment model drives the business model, rather than the other way around. We incorporate ideas from academic research that are applicable to our investors, and search for proven concepts that work through time.
Services
We employ a no-nonsense approach that focuses on generating the best return net of fees and taxes. Investments are often overcomplicated. However, the essential ingredients are fairly simple and have been proven in both academic and real-world settings. We employ a no-nonsense, back-to-basics approach that focuses on generating the best return net of fees and taxes.
Armbrust is a German word meaning "crossbow". In medieval times, an armbruster was an archer or soldier armed with a crossbow. We don't find much use for crossbows in our current occupation, but just like our ancestors, we aim to be straight shooters in all our dealings.

When you work with a representative from a brokerage firm, insurance company, or bank, it is likely that you will be working with a sales representative rather than a true investment professional. Our team includes CFA charter holders and CPAs. We read primary academic research, test theories with our own quantitative analysis, and understand the tax impact of our investment decisions (yes, we're a little nerdy).
We work with boards and finance committees to set up investment portfolios that adhere to your organization's investment policy statement. If you do not have a written investment policy, we will work with you to draft a document that expresses your needs and intentions. Most foundations and endowment funds have a need for current income, either to supplement operations or to meet gifting objectives.
We help clients enhance their fiduciary obligations while reducing costs and improving performance. Companies offering these plans are fiduciaries under federal law (primarily ERISA), which means they must act in the sole best interest of their employees participating in the plan. We manage this effort for our clients to help wade through the complexity, and to make sure they are always in compliance with applicable regulations.
The Armbruster Capital Management News & Education section of our website incorporates articles, vidcasts, and newsletters specifically geared towards issues that our clients are facing today. The Dow will rise to 40,000 in the next 12 months. That's not so much a forecast as it is a warning. Sure, a rising stock market may sound exciting, but too much of a good thing can pose eventual problems.
