Trauma is an emotional response to a terrible event. Examples of a terrible event could include: an accident, rape, natural disaster, abuse etc. Long term reactions to a traumatic experience include unpredictable emotions, flashbacks, strained relationships, and even physical symptoms (headaches, or nausea).
Anxiety and worry are a normal part of anyone's average day. Just because you are experiencing anxiety does not mean that you have an anxiety disorder. Anxiety is your brain's way of warning you that you are in a dangerous or difficult situation. So in a sense, some anxiety is good because it warns us of upcoming difficulties, and that allows us to prepare for them.
Couples distress is a pervasive concern, and without intervention, the bad can get worse. Feelings of dissatisfaction, hopelessness, and/or deep disconnection can flood the relationship. When our brains are under great emotional stress, our logic areas of the brain are not functioning as well, and this causes many of us to get into conflict without the right tools.
