Grinnell Eye Care PC
At Grinnell Eye Care, Dr. Ramona Mitchell provides medical and routine vision examinations for adults and children. Our eye doctor specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the eye and provide well vision exams. Treatments may include prescription of medicine, glasses, or contact lenses.

Regular eye examinations are an important part of your preventive health care. Children should have their first eye exam at 6 months of age, again at age 3 and every year into adulthood. The simple vision screening provided by your pediatrician may not detect all eye issues, and early detection is vital.
Services
Dr. Ramona Mitchell grew up near Cedar Falls, IA where she attended Janesville High School. Following high school, she attended Luther College where she received a BS in Biology. In 1993, Dr. Mitchell graduated from Indiana University School of Optometry, where she was a teaching aid for two years.
At Grinnell Eye Care, our examinations are more than just checking to see if you need glasses! Our goal is to provide the best vision health care in a comfortable, friendly environment. Your eyes provide early detection for many diseases that can affect more than just your vision. Early diagnosis of diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease are just a few of the illnesses that can be detected through visual health examinations.
At Grinnell Eye Care, we carry a large selection of eyeglass frames from designer to budget. We are certain that we can help you pick out the best choice for you whether your glasses are a necessity or an accessory. Eyeglasses have become a fashion statement! Our opticians are trained to recommend the best lens solution for your specific needs.
The American Optometric Association recommends a comprehensive professional eye examination be performed at 6 months, 3 years and 5 years. A comprehensive examination includes: the evaluation of the refractive state (checking to see if there is a prescription needed), a dilated fundus examination, visual acuity, ocular alignment, binocularity (the ability to see in 3D), and color vision testing where appropriate.
We all know sunscreen is important for protecting your skin - sunglasses provide the same necessary protection for your eyes. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation has been linked to cataracts and macular degeneration. It is extremely important that children begin to wear sun protection as early as possible to avoid the potential of these diseases.

I have always received top notch eye care from Dr. Mitchell but this year she went even higher in providing great eye care. Due to a medical situation Dr Mitchell was going to come in after hours to examine my eyes. Luckily it could wait until regular business hours. On Monday morning Dr Mitchell contacted me to see how I was doing and if I needed anything. I called that same morning and had an appointment the same day. Excellent care for my situation.

Dr Mitchell combines the best of excellent “bed side” manner and a top notch medical practice. Her staff is just as good: patient, caring, and good taste in what frames look good on.

Staff are welcoming and friendly from setting up the appointment through the end of the visit. Dr. Mitchell is highly knowledgeable, professional, and very personable. She explains complicated issues in understandable terms. She's terrific with people of all ages, including children and seniors. All the members of my family, including myself, use corrective lenses. I have a family history of certain conditions, such as glaucoma, that require regular monitoring. I absolutely trust Dr. Mitchell and the entire team at Grinnell Eye Care with our vision.
