But the story really begins with Fred Harvey, who "civilized the west" by introducing linen, silverware, china, crystal, and impeccable service to railroad travel.
Many of our rooms feature handmade Ponderosa pine beds, handwoven Zapotec rugs and Mexican tin and Talavera tile mirrors adorn the walls. A number of rooms feature original 1930 B&W mosaic tile bathrooms complete with 6-foot cast-iron tubs. Other rooms feature custom bathrooms with whirlpool tubs and hand-painted tile murals.
The Turquoise Room serves regional contemporary Southwestern cuisine - with an occasional tribute to the great days of the Fred Harvey Company. In 1935, Mary Jane Colter was asked to design the private dining car for the Super Chief that was to run from Chicago to Los Angeles in 1936. It was named The Turquoise Room.
La Posada is on the Amtrack line and located at the intersection of Route 66 (now called 2nd Street) and State Route 87 in historic downtown Winslow. La Posada owns the AMTRAK depot - it's part of the original hotel compound - so you can arrive at our door from all over the USA. The train stops here twice daily on the Los Angeles/Chicago line.
These great attractions are all located in historic downtown Winslow and within walking distance of La Posada. A Brief History of Winslow, Arizona, a short film created by the Old Trails Museum, provides an overview of Winslow's history and information on many of the historic sites and buildings listed here.

For an authentic, iconically American cultural experience, stay here. Clean comfortable rooms all beautifully decorated, one of the best gift shops in the American Southwest, always polite always efficient service, and don't leave without watching the video. Make reservations! For the rooms and dinner at the Turquoise Room both. Lots of side trips, great train watching, delightful museum next door.

Great food in an elegantly restored historic hotel. Masterpiece is not an overstatement. The artwork is really worth a trip, too. Didn't stay at the hotel but had dinner and explored the galleries and grounds. Beautiful.

What an amazing hotel. Historic old Amtrak hotel built in the 30's, gorgeous gardens, custom iron work, rooms are appointed with hand made furniture, rugs and art, books for reading, jacuzzi tub in our King room, just incredible. The Turquoise Room restaurant on site is also not to be missed, great hand crafted dishes and drinks. Best of all pet friendly, we were traveling with our dog and the rest of the patrons seemed to be as well. Very accommodating. Gift shop on site has a beautiful selection of locally crafted jewelry, pottery, rugs and more at fair prices. We will be back.

My Lady took me out into the wilds to look at petroglyphs, and I had no idea what to expect way out in the Arizona desert. It turned out La Posada was one of the high points of the vacation.

It's a train station. I've been to train station hotels in Europe, and they were absolutely wonderful. But I've never seen one in America before, and I wondered if we would be camping on a bench overnight or something.

No, it was wonderful! This old hotel is a showcase. We walked around in the gardens and enjoyed the cool of the evening. Inside we found high ceilings, old wood fixtures,

Disclaimer: we just visited while in Winslow but didn't stay there. Spent about two hours touring the grounds and having beverages in the bar. Staff was super accommodating and the property is classy and interesting. This was a highlight of our route 66 trip. We will definitely be back next year and book a stay for the family:

This is a lovely hotel and we are very glad we spent a day here. It is a convenient stopping point between Flagstaff and Santa Fe.

Two years ago we visited La Posada and looked at the artistic and historic furnishings without spending the night. This year we returned and stayed overnight at this lovely restored Fred Harvey hotel. The hotel still offers overnight accommodations to train and highway travelers.

Our first floor room 101 was at the end of the veranda that extends away from the restaurant. Our room overlooked the back lawn and railroad tracks. We had a private seating area outside

We visited this hotel 18 years ago and hoped to return for a stay. We finally did. We had the Harry Truman room complete with jetted tub. Our stay was amazing. I can't describe the peacefulness we experienced. This is the place to decompress among beauty. From the gorgeous rooms to the unbelievable grounds, the AZ state museum and being blessed to see Tina Mion's work. Wow. Two days of bliss and destressing. AND the Turquoise Room! The chef is amazing and the food extraordinary. Gift shop is very reasonable and every employee helpful, knowledgeable, and personable. We will be back, sooner

A wonderful restoration of a historic 1930s hotel. The rooms vary in size and price, have different themes.

It is fun to stroll the public spaces and gardens.

Be aware that some rooms face busy train tracks.

Excellent restaurant on site, no reason to go off premises for dinner.
No breakfast was served when we were there in late May, 2021.

Super fun and unique place to stay in Winslow. My family and I were visiting from Atlanta and my teen-aged son and I spent about an hour roaming the halls to look at (and talk about) the owner's art work. The room was large with very local decor.

This hotel is why you come to Winslow. If you like historic hotels, you'll love this one! The rooms are big, clean, and well appointed. The staff is friendly and very customer-centric. The food at the Turquoise Room is fantastic! Every inch of the place is filled with interesting bits of history. And if you like drinking Martinis and counting trains, it's heaven.

If and when you find yourself driving through Winslow AZ don't stand on a street corner as the song says... spend the night at The La Posada Hotel.

A true Gem of the Southwest to say the least.

The Hungry Hardhat has placed the La Posada Hotel on a Platinum List and a must place to visit even for a couple of drinks at the bar or a cup of coffee for breakfast.

So let it be written... So let it be Done.

Truly a regional gem! No visit to the area without a visit to La Posada is a "shonda". You can go for the history and how it was a stop along the Harvey Hotel railroad empire, you can for the food (excellent options and well prepared) in the Turquoise Room (very ably staffed), you can go to see the art of the owners wife (it is a bit morbid I'll go with that as my comment. And wow is she prolific), or you can go just as a pit stop and relax in the gardens....regardless it's a must when in NE Arizona.

Just average. Only real hotel in city that has windows. Check in was not super friendly. Never told us( but we initialed )that they did not make up room or replenish towels. Maids were super nice. Reception seemed bored and wanted to talk with each other. Prices in gift shop were just slightly higher than Pebble Beach or the Four Seasons. Plates for $85 each. Lots of $2,000 blankets. You have to be kidding?

Room was small but nice. Bed nice and blankets were old like grandma's house. Bathroom sink barely drained. Really needs updating. No elevator, guess that's ok. Could be a lot

Ok let me get this off my chest. No elevators. Ok.

This place is awesome. Absolutely beautiful. It is a great looking, feeling and big place. They have game rooms art museum restaurant bar. Outdoor areas a small garden. On and on and on. Really could stay here a week but it would be the only thing to do in town seriously. There is not much to Winslow except this place and "standing on the corner". That's it.

So many fast pasted trips often skip the relics of yesteryear. This would be true for the La Posada Hotel in Winslow AZ.

Stepping into the past and including the point that this Hotel served as a respite for moguls, actors, Einstein, Clark Gable, Bob Hope, Amelia Earhart and President Truman to name a few.

It's a gorgeous hotel with wrecking balls facing its demise every so often but managing to escape it. Especially in a town that is practically dried up. They've preserved a lot of history here to include rather morbid paintings from Ms. Tina Mion. Macabre and dark, you ponder the
