The name on our door is deceiving, but it comes with a funny story that only family owned businesses can have (and after more than 100 years in business, why change it?). Berger Hardware has been owned by the Robertson family since it first opened in North Park in 1912. We've had customers coming to us since Hayden Sr. was running the show, followed by his sons Hayden Jr. and Richard, and grandsons Craig and Stuart.
Some of those customers still visit the store today and ask after all of them. There has always been a Robertson in the building. So you might ask, why not Robertson Hardware? Well to be frank, Berger has a better ring to it. But in all seriousness and truth, when Great-Great Grandma Robertson moved to San Diego with Hayden Sr. and his baby sister in the early 1910's freshly divorced, she, as you might expect, met a man.

The gentlemen at the store (presumably the owner?) helped me for a good 10 minutes trying literally 25 really small washers on a bolt I brought in, to make sure they all fit. When we got to the register he said 'Just give me a buck.'. This is an absolutely outstanding small business that you should support.

This is seriously the best specialty hardware store in all the lands. I find it soothing and cathartic to peruse isle after isle of meticulously organized fasteners. Every so often when I feeling spirited, which is often, I will buy an inordinate amount of various sized zip ties and heat shrink. Marshall's is where I want my ashes spread.

There's a reason these guys have been around for over 100 years. They have a huge selection of decorative finishes and hardware. But in addition, they treat customers great and actually get to know you. I heard they recently started offering cabinets as well. If you're remodeling look here before youre done
