Scratch bakeries are hard to come by in a world where cutting corners to save time and money reigns supreme. Our philosophy has always been that taste and the quality of ingredients we serve our customers should not be sacrificed for any reason. If it's not from scratch, it's not from Edible Art. Take a look around our site.

We have our standard and seasonal flavors listed as well as photos of our beautiful cakes and other delectable sweets. Ready to order now? You can place your order online and we will call or email you to confirm the details of your requested order. A 25% deposit is required to be placed to process an order.
Services
Edible Art Bakery & Dessert Cafe grew from the old Southern pound cake recipes of eastern North Carolina native Judy Lasater. Mrs. Lasater began making cakes using her mother's recipes in the 1950's. In 1982, Mrs. Lasater partnered with her daughter Beth Pendergrass and formed what is now Edible Art Bakery and Dessert Cafe.
From a traditional pumpkin pie to a decadent chocolate cupcake, we are here to assist with your treats for the Holiday season. We will have a large variety of options available in the cafe and will be taking custom orders for a limited time. Don't delay, place your holiday orders before it is too late.
Well, you might have read once or twice that we are a scratch bakery, and that fact alone sets apart from most other bakeries. This improves the taste and quality of the products we make. Our desserts are not made in factories like those you might purchase from some grocery store bakeries. We never freeze our cakes, though that too is a common practice.
Since 1982, we have been sharing our scratch-made Southern style wedding cakes and cutting-edge designs with people all around the world. If practice makes perfect, we've had more than 38 years to perfect our style! Your wedding desserts should be as special as you are. Design is important, and so is quality.
We update our cafe menu seasonally about every 6-8 weeks however custom cupcake/cake orders do not have to stay within the seasonal menu. View our list of current cafe items below as well as our full list of flavors. Almond Amaretto:+ Almond cupcake with amaretto nut filling and almond buttercream--this flavor combo is synonymous with "Edible Art!"

So very disappointed. We have used Edible Art for years for cakes and special treats. I stopped in after work this week and spent over $50 on cupcakes, cake slices and macaroons. Was very excited to bring the treats home to my family. Every single item was stale or overcooked. The macaroons were so hard you couldn't even bite into them. The cupcakes were dry and had no taste. Even my all-time favorite almond pound cake was stale. Sadly this will be the last time for us at Edible Art.

My birthday cake turned out SOOOO amazing and perfect! I had a very specific cake in mind: a vintage buttercream frosted cake or kitsch cake. Edible Art came through for me on very short notice-after being turned down by over 10 different bakeries in the Raleigh area. They made the cake exactly like I wanted and even captured every little detail I wanted on it down to the shade of the frosting. It was the perfect touch to complete my Scream Queens themed party together!

The cake itself was very rich, moist, and tasted amazing. The flavors were rich. I choose a marble flavored cake and it was

Wonderfully moist and tender cake with the perfectly just enough sweetened buttercream frosting! I'm constantly looking for cake wherever I go and now I've found the place. Unfortunately, I don't live here and just visiting. My partner who normally doesn't like buttercream frosting really liked this frosting. This is what cake dreams are made of and I wished I lived here.

The cake was actually tasty, but the customer service awful. My daughter and I walked in and the young lady working had her back turned from the door. She quickly turned around starred at us and said NOTHING!!! Nothing at all, wow what great customer service. My daughter nudged me to speak, because she knew that I wouldn't have otherwise. My mother had wanted a cake from here for her 70th Birthday, we've had it don't plan to do it again. You would think with these prices they charge and I knew the price before but you would think the customer service would be awesome. Must

I ordered a cake here some years back, it was short notice for my daughter's birthday. Anyway they were very helpful considering this was my first decorative cake ( MAC cake). Now I will say this was my first experience with fondant and I am definitely not a fan and neither was my daughter, but the cake itself was beautifully made and it looked exactly like the picture. The cake itself was very rich, I actually came back for the cupcakes, which are very rich as well ( a lil too sweet) but they are beautiful and taste wonderful.

I thought hard on whether or not if I should leave a review but I myself rely on reviews so I decided to do so. I saw many reviews raving on the cakes and business, so you can see why I am highly disappointed. The customer service was horrible. The young lady was not welcoming at, barely any eye contact and just simply seemed bothered and annoyed I was there sense she was perfectly fine with the previous guest. It was my first time ever buying from here. She did not even bother sharing her knowledge on the flavors. Her vibe was just so off. Not to mention, this may be a bit tedious but what I wanted

We loved the lemon and blueberry cake and the gluten free lemon and blueberry cupcakes that Edible Art created for a lemon themed Bridal Shower. The bride and guests raved about them. Edible Art was very patient and flexible with our order. I highly recommend them for your event's bakery needs. They are outstanding.

Read about the reasons to NOT use this bakery.
1. The staff does not have their customers best interest in mind. They all tell you different prices and different information. You may be told by one person that the price is lower and that they need a certain amount of notice and then another person that that notice is too short, they can't find your paperwork; AND then tell you they can do it after leaving you on hold forever and the price is over $100 more. Not good for anyone that is meticulous in having events just right.
2. The art looks pretty, but the cake itself is not great.

This establishment is known for i design cakes. For my mom's 80th birthday, I eagerly awaited the cake I selected. Upon ordering I was informed the numbers in my selection were not available and that was understood. Below is their website depiction of the cake ordered and the photo beneath it is what I received. There is a marked difference between the two cakes. I am beyond disappointed. My dissatisfaction has been expressed to this establishment and they have not acknowledged my email.

We requested a double tier and groomsman cake for our wedding day and Edible Art nailed it! We chose the chocolate and lemon cakes (I don’t even like chocolate cake but this chocolate cake is sooo delicious!). For the groomsman cake i requested an Alabama “A” to surprise my husband on the wedding day. It was absolutely perfect and the best surprise! It was delivered on time and the team was so easy to work with throughout the entire process!

Mindy and the team at Edible Art Bakery provided us a wonderful cake to celebrate our wedding day with. Due to food allergies, our cake had to be dairy-free and gluten-free... Edible Art Bakery completely delivered! The cake tasted amazing even with these restrictions, and looked beautiful during the photos and cake cutting. We ordered a two-tier cinnamon swirl cake with vanilla faux-buttercream; we are looking forward to eating the part we saved for our one-year anniversary! The team delivered the cake during the day-of and made coordination seamless leading up to the event. Strongly recommend

My new husband and I recently worked with Mindy and the Edible Art team to create our dream wedding cake. From the beginning, their team was so helpful in bringing our unique design to life. We chose Edible Art in part due to their convenient location to our reception venue and also due to their longstanding reputation in the area for wedding cakes. We chose a chocolate and vanilla marble cake with buttercream filling and fondant icing (due to the structure and design). While originally nervous about the fondant for a wedding cake, we were happily surprised at the freshness and flavor. All of our

NONedible art? Three strikes- you're OUT! Wow, well can't blame this on COVID! Have purchased cakes from here for over 20 years, from their downtown Hillsborough St location, to near Meredith College, to their current North Hills bakery. Not sure what's happened over the past 3 years but it's not good. From sporadic dry cakes, to messed up decorations to incorrect cake deliveries. Anyway, we keep hoping for improvement but it hasn't happened. Just yesterday I picked up an 8 inch round for a hefty price only to discover it was only 7 inches and decorated TOTALLY incorrectly

Here to let the world know that your cakes are super dry and overpriced. I also want folks to know that the owner is the "all lives matter" type. Take your business elsewhere!! They do not provide good desserts and you shouldn't give your money to low-key racists, period. They tried to delete this post from their Facebook but we are faster.

I have loved your cakes for decades. Every birthday, holiday and even our wedding cake came from your store. I've followed you from location to location to location and have bought from all of them. Even Your original store on Hillsborough (the location by the Capital). I have to say your post today about All Lives Matter struck me with a great deal of pain. As a store that is owned by an LBGTQ owner with a black son, I was stunned and shocked by your words. My husband and I love your products, but after your post (that was removed), we will no longer support your store. We can&apos

Maybe I had the "one-off" experience but....worst custom ordered cake. Ordering was easy (all online) but that was really the only positive. Picked up our $70 cake to see the top / icing was all cracked. They showed me & had no issue with me accepting the cake like that. I asked for them to fix which they quickly did. Moving along, staying positive until.....we cut the cake. LOL! None of the 12 party guests took more than 2 bites. It was atrocious. Maybe I'd suggest asking for a taste run before ordering anything from here.

Went again today & the almond amaretto cake slice was perfect! Wasn't overdone or dry as it was last time. Really moist & delicious. I was so pleased!
However, I ordered a vanilla cake slice with chocolate frosting & was really disappointed. It is way over cooked & the cake is very crumbly & dry. If you try to get a forkful it ends up breaking up & falling off the fork. I ended up throwing it out because it's not good at all. I took a picture of how dark the bottom is.
I also am not sure why the vanilla cake was 2 layers but the almond amaretto was 4 layers.

Loved the selection of cakes and the seasonal cheesecake brownies.
I had the white cake with chocolate frosting- probably a little too sweet. Loved the filling, but probably a little less sweet buttercream frosting.
I thought it odd the red velvet cake doesn't have cream cheese frosting. That's not really something in the recipe the baker should feel free to adjust- it's a necessary ingredient

I want to actually give another half a star for the helpfulness of the staff....but not worth 3 stars.
I called to see if this place made Petit Fours and was delighted when the woman who answered said they did. I ordered these 3 weeks before Christmas so I could be assured of having the treat in time. I felt confident that this being a bakery, they would know what a petit four is...fyi, they don't have a clue.
For those that aren't sure what I am talking about, a petit four is a French pastry that is a SMALL square poundcake pastry, maybe 1-2" square, usually vanilla with a light

I am a fan of Edible Art! It's right down the street from me which is probably a bad thing. I just love that they have so much variety. Want a cupcake? Sure! Want to get some Maple View Farm Ice Cream? Why not! Want a piece of cake? Yes! Want a mini pie? Sign me up! What about a donut? Yes, that too! Seriously so many tasty options in one little North Hills Shop.

I have tried a few of the cupcake flavors and they have been pretty tasty. I like that they always seem to have a decent selection. We just recently tried their mini peanut butter pie and it did not disappoint. It had an oreo crust
