The sunflower is symbolic of the manipura chakra, the energy center in the body located at the solar plexis. It's the center of your power and true self. Of the flower, the venerable Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh says, We can describe the flower as being full of everything. There is nothing that is not present in the flower.

The whole cosmos has come together in order to help the flower manifest herself. May the sunflower be a reminder of your connection to the greater whole of life, "announcing your place in the family of things", and through your practice, may you radiate "the astonishing light of your own being"!.
Services
At Sunflower Yoga Studio our intention is to provide a beautiful and inspiring space where teachers and students of yoga and related practices can come together to enjoy classes that empower them to be their best selves. The studio provides mats if needed, and there is a changing room on site. Located on Philadelphia Street in Downtown Indiana, Pa, we're just a short walk from the IUP campus.
What is yoga? The word "Yoga" comes from Sanskrit, one of the world's oldest languages, and means union. It is an integrative system of health balancing body, mind, emotion, and spirit. Today, most Yoga practitioners in the west practice Hatha Yoga, the physical aspect of Yoga which focuses primarily on physical postures, breathing exercises, and meditation.
Please be considerate of classes already in session when you arrive for your class by waiting quietly in the lobby area until your class begins. If you arrive late to a class, please be courteous: walk onto the floor silently, find a space closest to the entrance, and roll your mat out quietly to avoid disrupting the class.
Alyssa is an ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist and a Dance2Fit instructor from Indiana, Pennsylvania. She graduated from IUP in 2016 with a degree in Exercise Science (minor in Nutrition). She is currently a full-time employee at ALDI and is also an On Call Exercise Specialist at Plus One Health Management.
While it is best to establish a practice and come to classes regularly, drop-ins are always welcome. Most classes are on-going, except where otherwise noted. No pre-registration required, and you can begin any time. Check the schedule to see which classes are available on-site at the studio and which are on Zoom.

Jill and her staff are great. They are highly trained individuals that make yoga classes fun and interesting. They teach alternate poses if you are not physically able to perform the standard poses. I find her instructors really encouraging. The classes are really relaxing and I look forward to attending them.
