Services
The purpose of the Introductory Course is for the beginning student to learn some basic moves and etiquette of the school, to become familiar with the instructors and to try it out without making a big commitment. The lessons are schedule at the student's convenience and no uniform is required: loose-fitting clothing will do.
Even though self-defense is the theme of the instruction, there is also other attributes that are focused upon in the training such as: Self-Control, Coordination, Balance, Agility, as well as Concentration, Focus and Awareness. These skills are not just for self-defense, but for other endeavors in life, school, sports, jobs etc.
The adults classes allow for the student to learn at their pace and to get individual training from some of the top Kenpo instructors in the north state. We focus on technique, balance, coordination, as well as strength and conditioning. Our motto is Power, Accuracy, Speed. Power comes with proper technique.
All students that are the rank of yellow belt and above may join the N.M.A. Karate Team, with the approval of Professor Myrtle. Even though Karate Competition is actually an individual competition sport, we train and compete as a school team. I find this helps the students develop a sense of pride, responsibility his teammates and respect for all competitors.

I paid 6 months in advance for both of my daughters. They attend for 2 months. I Notified Alan, that due to a change at work, unfortunately I wouldn't be available to get them to and from class. I asked Alan for a reimbursement of the 4 months that they wouldn't be about to attend, that I paid in advance. He stated there is a sign, saying no refunds. 1) I wouldn't have paid for 6 months in advance if that sign would have been pointed out and just paid month to month. 2) if that sign would have been pointed out, I wouldn't have even asked about a reimbursement. Then I followed his statement with

I would highly recommend Northwest Martial Arts Center to anyone looking into karate, or just something for their child to be involved in. We have had a great experience and my son loves karate. He is not only learning karate and how to defend himself if the need arises but also valuable lessons in respect, listening, following directions and working with others.

Can I give 10 stars!?! We stumbled on this dojo when my son decided he wanted to try karate. We had such a good feeling right from the start. That was about a year ago. Mr. Myrtle is the BEST teacher! He has the perfect blend of discipline and fun for our 8 year old. He keeps things interesting and fun but expects you to give 100%. I love that! You will not be disappointed coming here, I promise!!

My daughter started a couple months ago. She is four in half. Mr. Myrtle started her out with 4 afforable private lessons to see if she was ready. I can't say enough nice things about Mr. Myrtle. He has patience but still stern enough to kids to listen. We can't imagine going anywhere else.

If you want to learn martial arts and especially American Kenpo this place is top notch. Mr. Myrtle, his son Nick and Jessie were a great asset to me and my son. We trained here for about 2 years but we had to move because of my job. I loved the area but the only thing that almost kept me there was so I could continue to train here. I miss this Kenpo studio and the people there immensely. I have visited a couple times since then when I was in the area and it has not changed. I highly recommend this studio for anyone who wants to improve themselves and needs a family environment as they are great
