For decades, the disciplines of civil and structural engineering have been moving toward increased specialization. After working with Bill for more than 3 years, I wanted to expand my prior comments. In a earlier life, I was a civil engineer. That professional experience gives me some ability to judge Bill's professional competence. It seems like this post should start with a joke. Well . . . What happened when the patio heater was placed too close to a load-bearing wooden beam? I think you know the rest of the story.
We burned a hole into our covered patio wooden beam and we weren't sure what to do. We contacted our contractor, and they said contact an engineer. I found Bill's organization online. BSM Engineering - talk about a professional organization.
From the moment we started interacting through email correspondence to multiple telephone calls, to a final verdict on what to do next, Bill was the highest

I am a Realtor and have not really run into many serious issues with settling but am working with buyers who on inspection found serious cracks and even a sunken corner in the garage. What a great experience over the phone with Bill. I called looking for help on the foundation of my 1929 home which had two vertical cracks from settling. We are in the process of adding James Hardie Siding to our house and I was concern that the additional weight might cause more settling.

I called Bill of BSM Engineering after receiving several conflicting estimates for our new home's basement foundation repairs. My experience with foundation contractors in the Portland area had been that "to a hammer, everything looks like a nail": different companies specialize in different solutions and they're going to recommend the thing they do best. I am in the middle of selling my house and was asked to hire an engineer to sign off on some work that was done before I even bought it.
