Services
The mission of The Apostles' House is to fight homelessness by providing comprehensive and innovative social services that enable self-sufficiency for families and individuals that are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless in Newark, New Jersey, and surrounding areas and enables self-sufficiency.
In 1982, The House of Prayer Episcopal Church in Newark, in cooperation with five other parishes (Trinity Cathedral, Christ Church Short Hills, St Luke's Montclair, St. George's Maplewood and St. Phillips Newark) in the Episcopal Diocese of Newark, came together and established a family emergency shelter called, "The Apostles' House".
We take great pride in providing superior programs and services to our clients. We believe teamwork is essential to the Organization's ongoing success and we are committed to a work environment where each employee is a valued member of our team always seeking. I would like to say that The Apostle House has helped me in ways I didn't expect.
The Apostles' House is home to over 115 families per year. Aside from their immediate need for shelter and food, the vast majority of our mothers are in need of services that address the many issues and barriers they face as they navigate their journey from homelessness to self-sustaining mothers and families.

They use to give out toiletries and hygiene stuff that families need. But now mostly can food and the guy picks and choose who he gives what to ..they should offer all the same items to everyone. They get 4 stars cause they been helping families for a long time..I worked in the field for 8yrs I applied there a few times but never got called.

This is a female/family center for women with children. Their is a phase associated with displaced men as well. It is a very good shelter type of agency. For women with children. Their setup is powered with counselors and case management teams of people. Ot also has a Pantry available for various members of the community it is a great place for the Newark, NJ communities.

Shelter needs to be shut down. Staff is unprofessional and don't respect you as a human being. They tell all your personal information to other residents and staff. Ms. Victoria and Ms. Iris are crooks and very sneaky. Ms.Victoria was summons to court several times due to her bad character within the shelter and her co-worker was caught embezzling money from several residents who paid shelter fee's to reside there. This place is also rat infested around the outside of the shelter. Staff do not have any concern for homeless families only doing their job to get paid and that is verbaly made clear
