Founded in 1889, the O'Neill-Hayes Funeral Home has been family owned and operated for five generations. We are one of the oldest funeral homes in Rhode Island, and the oldest funeral home on the entire Aquidneck Island. Over the past 125 years, we have become a benchmark in Newport and in the surrounding communities for compassion and service in the funeral industry.

The death of a family member or close friend is a very difficult time in anyone's life. Our website provides resources for individuals to visit for seminars, workshops and articles that will help you understand the grief you are feeling when someone in your life has passed. Many people plan for life events such as weddings and vacations well in advance, however, do not plan for something that is certain to happen, their funeral.
Services
Staff members of O'Neill-Hayes Funeral Home are caring and experienced professionals who understand that each family is unique and has personal requests and traditions. These requests and traditions are of utmost importance to our staff of licensed funeral directors. Charles J. "Charlie" Hayes is the fourth generation owner/operator of the O'Neill-Hayes Funeral Home.
The O'Neill-Hayes Funeral Home is located at 465 Spring Street in historic Newport, Rhode Island. The building, the "Old Stone House, " was constructed in 1834 by Robert P. Lee. Our arrangement office is located at 37 Lee Avenue, less than one half block down from the funeral home. Parking is available in our parking lot situated on the corner of Spring St. and Lee Avenue.
Many people plan for life events such as weddings and vacations well in advance, but many people do not plan for something that is certain to happen, their funeral. While most people do not want to think about their own mortality, the time to pre-plan your funeral is now.

The primary advantages of pre-arranging your funeral is to relieve the burden on your loved ones in an already emotional time, and to ensure your funeral is carried out according to your wishes, eliminating the task of second-guessing what you would have wanted.Taking the time now to arrange your funeral is one less thing your loved ones will need to worry about once you've passed.
Family and friends getting together to honor a loved one's life is one of the most important steps in the grieving and healing process. You may opt to have a traditional religious or military service, or as more and more people are doing, you can choose to have a non-traditional 'life celebration'.
No matter if a death is sudden, or if it something that was a long time coming, the loss of a loved one makes us feel emotional and overwhelmed. No amount of preparation can fully prepare you for the loss of a loved one. When you are in a heightened emotional state, even the most basic decisions can seem staggering.
