Apalachee Center
1948 - The organization now known as Apalachee Center was first organized in Leon County as the "Institute of Human Relations", and located in offices provided by the Leon County Board of County Commissioners. 1966 - A group of Tallahassee civic leaders incorporated the clinic as the Leon County Mental Health Center, a non-profit community agency serving Leon County, governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.

1972 - With federal funding, the Center began to expand services to Franklin, Gadsden, Jefferson, Liberty, Madison, Taylor, and Wakulla Counties. The Center's name was officially changed to Apalachee Community Mental Health Services, Inc. to better reflect the organization's mission to serve all eight counties.
Services
At Apalachee Center, we know that no one is helpless, and no one needs to be hopeless. Apalachee Center offers a full spectrum of care for families and individuals seeking help and recovery from psychiatric or addictions crises. They are the local government office.
It's really hard to get some good help here most of the time. But lately new people have come in that are trying to be more helpful. Like Mrs Clair the receptionist. She works hard to help everyone.

If I could leave NO stars I would
Everything said about this “organization” prior by people is true. It’s scary it’s a “government” program. These people know this and abuse that power. They’re obviously not being regulated by any kind of standard and that’s also scary. I had a “manager” when confronted on how they failed to do their one job (be a mental health service) on SEVERAL occasions and it’s been MONTHS and I was threatened by that supervisor to basically say I’d be framed as the one NOT in compliance.
It’s scary these people are in charge of lives. I wouldn’t

Someone please report this place to the local government office. They do not care at all for it’s patients. Called two weeks ago feeling suicidal, lady told me I’d get a call next day to set up appointments. Never got. A. Single. Call.
Looking at the previous reviews makes me disgusted. This is horrible. As someone who has no health insurance let alone barely any income, I see no reason to even bother looking at this place for any sort of “help”. I’d suggest self help on the internet.

As a former employee I have to say this is a job I absolutely hated!!! The administration doesn’t care about the well being of their staff, I worked numerous nights ALONE. I was denied a raise several times....don’t let me start on being out after testing positive for covid.... I didn’t receive pay due to what administration said was “lack of funds” and they “hoped things worked out for me” smh.
I honestly don’t know how this place is still in operation!!!
If you want to feel like you, your safety and well being are a non factor with no raise by all means work for Apalachee!!

The most horrible place.
The staff, except for one, who is a Pastor, were terrible.
The beds are 2” thick and the pillows are the same.
There was a thin spread on the bed and the temperature was about 50 degs.
I asked for another spread and was told “no”.
I spent the next 5 days pacing the floor in the common area.
The counselor was treated me like a criminal even though I was there for alcohol recovery.
They had me housed with insane people, that would start screaming and talking to people that were not there.

Sought treatment voluntarily and was shuffled through the system and ignored by weekend staff, when I requested discharge I was told that I would have to wait to be seen since staff assumed I was an involuntary admit- they ended up holding me two extra days against my written request per their own terms. Facility has also refused to release my documentation from my stay- citing that it is against policy for me to request copies of my records.

Absolutely no care for their patients. Willingly let’s patients run out of medication and refuse to give them more medication in a timely manner. Also they refuse to give the family directions on how they can obtain medication for their loved one from an outside source. Then when patients display symptoms from their mental health disorder, they refuse to admit them into inpatient. Even with insurance. It’s almost as if they want patients to commit a crime before they step in. They also love to hang up the phone on families. NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED BY THE STATE!! I am contacting my state and

I was in the children’s unit and had a terrible experience. They never asked me what was wrong or what happened. I never got any counciling. I was prescribed multiple medications. I even had a nurse tell me that my situation wasn’t as bad as another patients. Even if it wasn’t you don’t say that but I don’t know how they would know if they never spoke to me about why I was there or what was wrong. They don’t actually care about the patients. My mental state got worse while I was in there.
