Amenia, NY, is a town in northeast Dutchess County, comprised of the Amenia, Wassaic, Amenia Union, South Amenia, Smithfield and Leedsville hamlets. Officially formed in 1788 on the western border of Connecticut, the town's name is derived from the Latin word "amoena, " which means "pleasant to the eye."
Barrytown, NY, is a hamlet in the town of Red Hook, within the Hudson Valley Historic District, in Dutchess County.

Established in the 1830s, the hamlet houses four of the Hudson River Valley estates: Edgewater, home to Gore Vidal in the 1950s and 60s; Rokeby, also known as La Bergerie and the former residence of the Astor family; Sylvania, designed by architect Charles A. Platt; and Massena, where a young Theodore Roosevelt cultivated his appreciation for nature.
Callicoon is a town in Sullivan County, about two hours northwest of New York City. Surrounded by mountains, with the Delaware River at its feet, the town draws people to weekend homes, " to a place so peaceful that the loudest noise is the hum of a refrigerator, " as the New York Times once reported.
Chatham, NY, is a town at the north end of the Taconic State Parkway, on the northern border of bucolic Columbia County, on the east side of the Hudson River.

Formed from the towns of Canaan and Kinderhook in 1795, Chatham was an industrial center of multiple interstate rail lines from the 1850s to the 1950s, serving as the junction of the Boston and Albany Railroad for connections east and west, the Rutland Railroad for connections to Vermont and elsewhere in the north, and the New York Central Harlem Line for connections to New York City.
