Dr. Merchant is a board certified clinical health psychologist. She is licensed in Kentucky, West Virginia, Mississippi and Indiana. She received her undergraduate degree in psychology from Boston University and her Masters and Ph. D. in Clinical Psychology from Chicago Medical School.
She completed a clinical and health psychology internship at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center and a postdoctoral fellowship in primary care psychology at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.She is the current president elect and immediate past health psychology representative of the Kentucky Psychological Association.

Bariatric surgery (Roux en Y Gastric Bypass, Gastric Sleeve, Lap Band) is a permanent medical procedure designed to treat Morbid Obesity. It can eliminate or reduce co-morbidities (diabetes, hypertension). A pre-surgical psychological evaluation is a standard of care prior to bariatric surgery and required by most insurance companies.
