We're moving away from Ravenswood/Lincoln Square, and I'll miss Spoken the most of all my local haunts. Their Dirty Chai and drip coffee (Glassworks) are reliably delicious, and their breakfast sandwiches are solid.
Doors open at 7am, and expect a line by 7:30am. Order online through the Toast app to expedite the process.

Their patio is adorable and their drinks are really great. I was going to order the lox bagel and they were put of it so I got a breakfast sandwich and it gave me a bit of an upset stomach. It was very oily and the bacon was very heavy on the fat. I definitely wouldn't get that sandwich again. I enjoy sitting on their patio and having a tea with a friend, but I don't really eat here. Plus it is kind of pricy for what I have gotten.

Outstanding coffee and food, but the lines are incredibly long and there is no way to pick up an online orders without waiting in the long line (I waited 17 minutes just to pick up an online order). All of the recent complaints would be resolved if they reopened. They also need to more consistently staff the hole in the door where customers are served (even once you make it through the long line, you wait for someone to show up at the hole in the door to hand you your online order or to place an order in person when your wait restarts). Please reopen.

The pick up process here is horrible. It really doesn’t make sense to place an order ahead of time if you still have to wait in the regular line to pick it up. I waited in line for over 20 minutes just to pick up my food and it made me late because I assumed that I would be able to walk up pick up my food and leave. There could easily be two separate lines. This process makes no sense at all. Great food and awesome neighborhood joint. I would just suggest to the owner to make the pick up process a little smoother and quicker.

How on earth have I not reviewed Spoken yet... what the heck is wrong with me.
So great!
We have been coming here for a while now and it became a weekly stop during the Time of the Vid. Walked with my little one here on the way home from some long walks to pick up a delicious breakfast sandwich via their online ordering tool.

You can't find a better group of conscientious and friendly people. They are cognizant of their carbon footprint, their place in the community while honoring their origins, sourcing local growers, bakers, and crafters and damn, is their food great! They support ALL in their community and the shop is gorgeous. I have been a loyal fan for many, many years.

Went to Spoken to pick up homemade canned goods for gifts. Grew up on a farm so canning is an Olympic event in my life. The pickled beets and asparagus are better than my mom's (don't tell her). Complex spices, crispy, and a perfect pop when opened.
Did not know locally sourced grocery items available, too. Came home with amazing fresh eggs.
Spoken is way more than your average coffee spot.

Taking pick up orders during the pandemic is great. What's not great is that you don't distinguish between people who have gone online and made the effort to do their order and pay, and the people who are standing in line.
So there are lots of people congregating outside, and then you have two people with a dog and a special order about how much cream cheese they want on their everything bagel, etc. while others who have already paid are standing in line waiting for their orders - which presumably are ready per app estimated pickup time. (16 minutes ago)
This is the scene.

Spoken is made up of sandwich masters. I have eaten all of their regular sandwiches so many times that I now only have their daily special sandwiches, and EVERY.SINGLE.ONE IS AMAZING! And they do more! They… support local community gardens, are 100% plastic fee, are a truly sustainable and locally community-minded company. They sell local honey and jams from a block away and give some proceeds to the community garden where it is produced. Their owners are involved in local community development efforts. You truly could not ask for a better and more delicious business to be in your community

I like the chill vibe here. Definitely enjoyed their drip coffee and caldera breakfast sandwich. I would recommend this cafe for individuals in Ravenswood area who want a quick bite, cup of coffee and lunch. On the weekends, the best time to come in is between 8:30am and 9:30am because it gets busy afterwards.

Spoken Cafe is a very convenient cafe to go to, especially if you are a commuter. It's right off of the Brown Line. This means it can get pretty busy during peak hours.
There are a lot of great options here for coffee, tea, and sandwiches. I always get the chai tea latte and the lox bagel sandwich. The chai tea is definitely higher quality and more spiced than you would get at chain stores. The sandwich that I get is always more than enough and made well. I also appreciate that I can choose what type of bagel I want my sandwich on.
The only thing that bothers me is that you have to be
