We are a locally owned and operated full service funeral home since 1954. Centrally located in downtown Boone, we serve Watauga, Avery, Ashe, Caldwell, Wilkes counties in North Carolina, and Johnson County Tennessee. We are a full service funeral home, and have the areas only on-site crematory.

We stand behind our reputation and will continue to serve our community with the values instilled by our funeral directors. Austin & Barnes Funeral Home and Crematory is the former Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Directors. Opened in 1933, Reins-Sturdivant was the only funeral home in Watauga County. Richard Kelley was the first manager and later bought the business from Bill Sturdivant.

President, a native of Watauga County, Carolyn has been an active part of our funeral service since 1975, when she and her husband Johnnie purchased what was then Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Directors. Carolyn retired after a number of years as school secretary and bookkeeper from Hardin Park School. Carolyn continues to take an energetic part in the day to day operations of Austin & Barnes Funeral Home and Crematory.
Directions VIA 421: Straight thru town - on the main street (known as King Street) Beginning at traffic light at Blue Ridge Electric Offices/AutoStar Nissan - come to 9th traffic light and turn right on Depot Street; Austin & Barnes is one block up on left (three-way stop at Queen Street) directly behind the old rock post office and directly across from public library.

Austin and Barnes treated my father with a lot of respect and explained everything so that we could understand what was going on with him I think the people of Austin and Barnes was a wonderful group of people and I appreciate everything that they did for my family I would recommend them to anyone who wants people who cares about your loved ones

Professional, caring, very much concerned and capable with my family. They exceeded our expectations. They have an on-site crematory, so the care of my family member did not leave their site. Prices were much more reasonable than other funeral home in town. Their team was also helpful in the entire process. For sure, the best choice
