As home inspectors, we appreciate that the background and experience of your potential home inspector is important. You want a home inspector who is not only educated in homes, but also has hands-on experience. That hands-on experience is very important for really evaluating the issues, but the "book" knowledge is very important for fully understanding what is going on.
Many of my clients call and ask what is included in their home inspection - and it is a valid question! You want to make sure that you are covered and that everything is covered to the best extent possible. We abide by Illinois' and InterNACHI's Comprehensive Standards of Practice for Home Inspectors - which is very thorough.
What is the cost associated with home inspection? The answer to that question depends on whether or not you have the service performed. If you don't, you could be unaware of problems that could cost you thousands if not ten's of thousands for repairs (i.e bad plumbing, electrical, structural, wet basements, etc, etc, etc, ).

We recently contacted gravel creek home inspections for an inspection of our future home. We were very nervous and know very little about houses and what is required to make sure they are livable. From the start Robert was very helpful and got back to my inquiry immediately. During the inspection he was very precise with every area of the house. Unfortunately I could not be at the inspection and my wife didn't understand the lingo on some of the issues of the house, but Robert told us to email and he explained everything and even gave us helpful advice on what we could do to fix issues. We used Gravel Creek prior to buying our home, and we were very satisfied with Robert's services. He was extremely thorough and took several hours to go over every part of the house with a fine tooth comb. The written report he sent us after the inspection included every little detail he noticed during the inspection. I would highly recommend using Robert and Gravel Creek prior to buying a home.
