I've never met Cris, but I blindly paid him to refinish some original, very scratched-up, top-nailed oak flooring and install new flooring to more closely match the originals. It really paid off! He was super communicative throughout the process, quickly answered any questions I had, and sent me photos of his progress, which was very helpful as I was out-of-state.
I got another bid from a different company that claimed the existing floors were "end of life" and quoted me twice as much as Cris to install all new flooring. Cris disagreed and recommended refinishing them. He was totally right! They

Cris (and Nick) installed new floors for us on the entire ground floor. I wanted a simple oiled finish which not all installers and comfortable with as it is not that common; in contrast, he showed me several "natural" options and helped me choose between them. He was easy to communicate with and is clearly an experienced professional. They handled moving our kitchen island, stove, and fridge, because I was unable to find help - I was very grateful to them. My floor turned out amazing and gives me joy to walk on every day.

We had floors both installed and refinished by Cris and his team. They did a beautiful job both in designing the job and executing it. Cris answered both emails and phone calls quickly and started the job and finished on time. I was also amazed with how clean they kept the house while doing a huge job for us.

We selected Portland Hardwood Flooring to install new wood floors and refinish the old wood floors to match the new. Thanks to their excellent work, our new floors look amazing!

We had a water leak which caused a floor issue. We then replaced, sanded, stained and added hardwoods to our living room. Cris and team did a fabulous job. Great guys, on time and did all the little things to make sure everything was perfect.

Cris and his crew were great! I had floors that were sun damaged and had various spots of damage, plus a room that I removed carpet and added additional hardwoods. I am very pleased with the new look. We warmed up and darkened the woods, and finished with a more matte finish. It looks fabulous! I can recommend Portland Hardwood Flooring for the quality of work, the polite and efficient crew, the price I paid, and Cris’s quick responses to my various questions during and after the project. The process of connecting with Cris to obtain a proposal was easy. We found him to be professional, knowledgeable, and trustworthy. On the day work was to begin, his worker showed up right on time and was very polite and professional. The sanding part of the job was well done, with plastic sheeting put up to contain the dust. And the refinished floors turned out great – we are delighted with how they look.
The prep work could have been better as the base boards and carpet on the stair landing were not masked prior to staining, resulting in the carpet on the stairs being stained. Fortunately

If I could give Cris and Portland Hardwood Flooring **10 stars,** I would do so. Cris and his crew removed carpets and subflooring in my home and replaced all with a beautiful white oak. To give it a warmer hue he used an oil based finish, followed by a water based finish. The result is stunning and absolutely flawless. Cris is a true artist in his craft.
He made the process as easy as it could be. Yes, I did have to move out during the process, but it was easy to schedule, he showed up on time, finished ahead of time, and communicated frequently with me throughout. His ethics and professionalism

We contacted Cris about restoring our maple wood floors that had taken a beating over the last ~20 years. We had some heavy traffic areas that had seen a lot of wear (and dirt!), as well as some deep indentations from furniture that hadn't been padded/felted properly. Much of it, we thought, was completely damaged...there was also originally a high-gloss sheen finish that we thought made our home look dated.

What a standout company! My kitchen floor was damaged by a leak. The first two companies I called were either dismissive, said they couldn't come for a week, or gave a crazy estimate. Cris was a breath of fresh air. He answered my call right away, came to look at the problem and give an estimate that day, gave a complete and clear explanation of the problem and how to fix it, and didn't try to upsell. His team came on time, was clean and polite, and did a first-rate job. My floor looks better than when I bought the house! I will definitely use this company again.

We had Cris install beautiful hardwood floors in our home (in late 2014) as well as that of my parents (autumn 2015). Cris explains all of the pros and cons with regard to type of wood, type of finish, size of planks, and more. He takes into account lifestyle, tastes, price point, and the client's schedule. In addition, he works well with other workers (e.g., painters). Cris and his crew are trustworthy, professional, and detail oriented. I cannot recommend Cris enough.

We moved into an old house with lead floor painted on fir floors. We had several bids but ended up choosing Wood Floors By Design because of their competitive price and good knowledge of lead safe practices. Matt and his team were courteous and kept us updated throughout the process. We would recommend them without any hesitation.
