Services
Dr. Mitchell graduated from Washington University School of Dentistry in 1982. He served as President of his dental class for two years, and was awarded the Otto W. Brandhorst Award for his outstanding leadership. He graduated in the top of his class. Dr. Mitchell was born and raised in Alameda, CA, and returned to his hometown to start his practice and his family.

I haven't been there in years. He was the best dentist I have every been to! Unfortunately, I had several run I a with his office manager. (Way before Yelp) other than that this was the best place ever. Even with the kids, it was a calm and relaxing experience! Honestly, I never found a dentist to replace him. I go if I have a problem, but other than that I don't even go. Just because I couldn't deal with the office manager, I still highly recommend him!! (I'm only writing this now cause a friend mentioned to me that she goes there)

I can say so many great things about my experience here. The quality of care that I've received from Dr. Mitchell plus his staff Haydee & Mariah was astonishing! From the first call to my actual treatment day, everything went really smooth. All of the staff here are very accommodating & informative.

I have been going to Dr. Mitchell's practice for 4 years primarily for cleaning appointments. Unfortunately, I have not found a consistent hygienist to go to. Two of my hygienist were amazing, but the last one was a butcher. My last visit was the most painful cleaning ever. I recently called to make an appointment and this time, they called and canceled my appointment while I was in route to the office. That pretty much finalized my loyalty. Haydee the practice manager scheduled my teeth cleaning with Angela this year. My favorite dental Hygienist retired and I was nervous about trusting my fear of dental work with someone unknown. Thank you Haydee! I now have another favorite....Angela! After chatting a bit and learning which teeth were sensitive she started and was so gentle with the areas I was nervous about and my teeth have never looked so clean and felt really good. I can't believe I had to move to Alameda to finally meet a great dentist. Dr Douglas S. Mitchell and his staff get the highest recommendation I could give on Yelp but I'm going to add 5 of my own stars ***** If you need a great dentist or if your scared of dentists (I am) then make an appointment with Dr Mitchell. The most thorough exam I've ever had... and the best thing... Dr Mitchell thoroughly explained everything. The bonus... his staff is wonderful... they even put up with my jokes. I went in for an emergency visit with an old root canal that was acting up. And by acting up, I mean I had already gone to urgent care and the antibiotics were not working and had been in pain for 4 days up all night... They fit me in immediately, and even helped me understand my insurance! Haydee was amazing and really knows what she is doing. The entire staff, Rosa, and Dr. Mitchell were all very kind and immediately made me an appointment at the endodontist down the street - literally 15 minutes later. Amazing service, I will be back and thank you for all of your help!

This office is well run. I get a reminder call 1-2 weeks in advance so I have time to double check my schedule. The dental work is high quality, and I appreciate the attention to detail. Really like the ability to use laser and design crowns ....I feel like the office is cutting edge on technology as well as patient education.

Dr.Mitchell is the BEST! He is so funny and nice and always does such a great and thorough job with his work. He always gives an honest opinion if you need some work done. And the work he does is spectacular. I love the staff. Haydee at the front is so helpful and nice, and his assistants are always nice and cheery. I love the hygienists. They are very thorough and informative. This is the best office ever!!

Dr Mitchell did a crown, another filling or two, and a bond on a front tooth to fill a gap 25 years ago and all are in perfect shape now in 2014!.
He was a brand new dentist back then and now after moving far away I am thinking of going back as hes FUNNY, and makes us relax when we feel a little scared.
My current dentist just can't seem to get an onlay right on #14 and guess who I'm calling tomorrow?.......

I do not enjoy saying unkind things about Dr. Mitchell, who seems like a "nice guy," but feel the need to share my opinion of him as a dentist. I believe he recommends both unnecessary corrective and unnecessarily expensive cosmetic dental treatments.
Maybe his standards are ridiculously high, I don't know. But I prefer dentists with a more conservative approach to dentistry, and who discuss less involved/expensive approaches to dental problems, too.
I would urge his clients to get a second opinion from a reputable dentist before having any major work ($$$$) done here. It

I have been going to Dr. Mitchell's office for about a five years now. I have been well cared for in my three visits to this office. I would say this is the best dental office I have been to. Taylor (front desk) is absolutely stunning, and was extremely helpful with me as a new patient.
I hadn't been to the dentist in about a year when I first came to the office, so I needed a full exam. The exam was by far the most thorough I have even been through (about an hour). I have had my teeth cleaned by two of the hygenists Dea Ann and Rachel; both were excellent. Rachel is a very sweet

I have been going to Dr Mitchell all of my life, so I don't have any point of comparison. BUT I have to say it is a great office.
It is in a converted Victorian so it has a homey, personal feeling. The hygienists are thorough and pretty gentle. Dr. Mitchell has a really dry sense of humour and cracks me up, which can be a problem when you have fingers and tools in your mouth. The check-ups at the 6 month cleanings and the work I have had done is always detailed and professional. They make their night guards on site and mine is so much thinner and more comfortable than my husbands.

Every tooth my husband and I had worked on here has either been lost or needed repair I'm sorry to say. He did not fix what I wanted fixed immediatly ( a cracked front tooth)and wouldn't until I completed a list of things HE wanted done.( I pay cash. No insurance and the list was over 10k worth) He's a nice man but he's pumping people through and not doing the quality work he's capible of doing. He puts pressure upon his employees to meet a monthly quota (I overheard a meeting). After losing 3 teeth I found another dr who immediatly suggested my repairing my cracked front

Dr. Mitchell has been our family dentist for over 25 years. He is a great guy and excellent dentist. He puts time and effort into making it a relaxing experience . My last crown was done in one visit . He has a machine that makes the crown while you wait. This eliminates the need for slobbering into the impression molds and having to come back.
The work he does is meticulous and matches for color and shape .

I am a loyal person and I cultivate good relationship everywhere I go especially with a denist. I also have a fear of sitting on that chair while you open up your mouth and allowed someone to just go at it you know. Although I am an East Bay resident, I was still going to my childhood dentist in SF since I was seven. Dr. Richard Parodi died of old age and I was really sad and worried too of who will be my next dentist. Then Dr. Parker, my orthodontist, referred me to Dr. Mitchell.

Went to Dr. Mitchell after geting a referral from a friend. Broke a crwon right before my Christmad vacation :-( and refused to go back to my prior dentist in SF that always seemed to push crowns like he's selling drugs in the Tenderloin.......
Anyway- I know this sounds odd, but Taylor a thte front desk was able to get me in before the holidays and I swear, I have NEVER had a more enjoyable, educational visit to a dentist! VERY professional, very thorough in explaining things, shows you the projected costs as you're sitting in the chair for the next appointments. I highly recommend
