What is Davis-Bacon and the Prevailing Wage? The Davis-Bacon Act, often referred to as the Prevailing Wage law is a predetermined wage, established by the U.S. Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division. Although many refer to it as a Union Wage, it is in reality a "minimum wage" law.

I am currently getting ready to start my second year as an apprentice. Probably the best decision I ever made in my life is joining iuoe local 9. Not only have I made more money than I ever have but I get to learn from some of the best operators around. The sense of pride I get walking on a jobsite knowing I am better paid and trained is priceless. I get to go out to the training site in bennett and get as much seat time as I want making me smarter and better I am truly thankful to all my brothers and sisters who make eachother better

A couple months ago I responded to a posting on Craigslist for Heavy Equipment Operators. Shortly afterward I received a response from the Local 9 Operating Engineers Union explaining the benefits of the union and explaining to me the "extreme shortage" of operators. I filled out an application and about a week later everything went through great, they contacted me on a mid to late Friday afternoon and told me again the benefits and all the jobs available, 4 to be exact, although 1 was too far away and most of those needed multiple operators.
